Job Description:

Galileo Financial Technologies is at the forefront of modern core banking software and payment processing, powering innovative financial products for companies worldwide. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Product and Partnerships Counsel to join our legal team, dedicated to supporting and expanding Galileo’s suite of products, including payment processing, consumer, SMB or commercial lending solutions, card fraud detection and proactive risk and compliance management, and related financial technologies.

As a key legal advisor, you will provide strategic guidance on complex regulatory issues, collaborating closely with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Compliance, and Operations. You will be instrumental in driving the growth and global scalability of our products, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while enabling innovative solutions for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Provide pragmatic, actionable advice on regulatory requirements and best practices for Galileo’s payment processing and money movement products, including ACH, real-time payments, and card network compliance.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, marketing, compliance, and operations teams to advise on the development and launch of new features and products, ensuring they are compliant with relevant regulations.

  • Risk Management: Offer strategic advice on managing legal risk and navigating regulatory ambiguity, particularly in relation to payment processing, money transfer regulations, and financial technology.

  • Global Expansion: Track and analyze international laws and regulations to ensure Galileo stays ahead of industry trends as we expand globally, providing guidance on license applications for new markets.

  • Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate customer agreements, partnership contracts, and other legal documents to support the growth of Galileo’s products and services.

  • Consumer Protection and Intellectual Property: Advise on issues related to consumer protection and intellectual property, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations and safeguarding Galileo’s innovations and brand assets.

  • Product Structuring and Implementation: Provide strategic guidance on the structuring and implementation of new products, ensuring they align with legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

  • Experience: At least 5 years of legal experience advising technology or fintech companies, with a focus on payment processing, money transfers, and financial technology.

  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of laws and regulations related to payment processing, money transfers, and fintech.

  • Global Perspective: Experience with international laws and regulations affecting payment processing and money transfers, including EU financial directives and global data privacy laws.

  • Collaboration Skills: Proven ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, marketing, compliance, and operations teams.

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to provide clear, strategic legal advice in a fast-paced environment, balancing legal risk with business opportunity.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively counsel business partners on complex legal issues.

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: A proactive, ownership mentality with a willingness to engage in all aspects of product counseling.

  • Education: JD and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. State Bar.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Payments Industry Experience: Direct experience working with payments, card networks, CFPB and related regulators.

  • Intellectual Property Knowledge: Familiarity with intellectual property regulations and best practices, especially as they relate to financial products.

  • Privacy and Security Knowledge: Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations, including GDPR and CCPA, as they relate to financial products.

    Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.

US-Based Base Compensation

$153,600 — $288,000 USD
