Under direction, the 5602 Utility Specialist will perform advanced journey-level work supporting the City's efforts to expand access to clean energy programs for San Francisco electricity customers. The Customer Engagement Group is the main point of contact for power customers and will be responsible for the intake and resolution of all customer requests in order to facilitate access to SFPUC resources. This position will act as an account manager for both Hetch Hetchy Power and CleanPowerSF retail services through outreach and engagement with existing, new and relocating customers and requires exquisite attention to detail and sound professional demeanor.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform direct outreach to individual customers, businesses and community groups in areas such as Hetch Hetchy Power, CleanPowerSF, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other programs that support Power Enterprise goals

  • Identify new and existing business opportunities for potential expansion to increase SFPUC’s customer base within its service territory

  • Maintain up-to-date records of contact information with key relationships, power operations, energy consumption and other related data

  • Serve as the customer champion within SFPUC to assure that customers' initial interconnection process and their continuing service meet the highest customer service standards

  • Help develop marketing and outreach strategies to facilitate customer solutions and growth

  • Collaborate and work closely with other Power Enterprise staff to efficiently follow program rules, policy directives and contractual constraints to ensure that customer needs are met effectively.

  • Identify operational constraints and evaluates or recommends policies and procedures to improve operations, mitigate risks, increase revenues and decrease costs

  • Class 5602 performs other related duties as required.

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university preferably with major coursework in Law, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, Computer Science, Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or other field related to the utility business; AND

Experience: Four years of verifiable journey-level work experience in one or more of the following areas: planning, scheduling, cost estimating and resource projecting for mid to large scale projects; water supply/infrastructure management and planning; power operations planning and scheduling; analysis, interpretation and application of utility contracts and regulations in either water, power (electric and/or natural gas), telecommunications, or a wastewater/clean water program; utility market and environmental analysis and planning; power supply and transmission rates and contracts; generation, transmission or distribution planning and design; or long-term utility systems planning.

Specified positions may require possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
