Description
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our dynamic team based in San Francisco, California. As a Sr. Accountant, you'll play a pivotal role in our accounting department, ensuring all projects are accounted for in compliance with company policy and contractual requirements. Your role will encompass a variety of tasks, including processing customer applications, maintaining accurate customer records, and resolving customer inquiries.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure timely completion of month-end close for the balance sheet and income statement, providing necessary backup documentation and schedules.
Conduct month-end and year-end reconciliations for bank accounts and the balance sheet.
Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and a clear audit trail.
Maintain and update the fixed assets schedule, including tracking depreciation.
Support the coordination of the annual external audit and tax preparation process.
Oversee the full project life cycle, including construction costing, billing methods, earned revenue, change orders, project budgets, contract compliance, and construction reporting metrics.
Analyze project expenses and compare them with budget-to-actual reports alongside project managers to proactively identify and address potential cost overruns.
Review all project invoices and ensure they align with the established budget.
Ensure accurate and timely posting of project transactions, such as costs, billings, change orders, budget adjustments, and transfers.
Perform weekly and monthly bank reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records.
Manage monthly and year-end close activities to ensure financial accuracy.
Handle quarterly profit share reconciliations for project managers.
Reconcile loan balances and maintain the debt schedule.
Coordinate project closeout procedures with project managers to ensure proper completion.
Serve as the point of contact for vehicle and equipment administration, including purchase setup, loan document processing, and maintaining equipment records in Sage.
Provide cross-training within the accounting department to ensure staff development.
Assist with the implementation of new accounting processes and procedures.
Manage various ad-hoc projects as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting (preferred)
5+ years of construction project accounting experience in the construction and development industry
Proficiency in full-cycle accounting, including managing general ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations
Extensive experience in project invoicing and billing
Familiarity with the construction lien release process
Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Hands-on experience with accounting software such as Sage 100 and Textura
Detail-oriented with strong financial acumen
Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, multitasking ability, and adaptability to shifting priorities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities and deadlines
Demonstrates professional judgment and the ability to work independently
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with diplomacy
In-depth knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including GAAP
