Compass Family Services Program Director, Central City Access Point in San Francisco, California

About the organization: Compass Family Services is a 100+ year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco's homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

About the team: The Central City Access Point is a direct entry point for any San Francisco family experiencing homelessness. We provide families with housing problem-solving support, and with connection to homelessness prevention, shelter and housing programs through San Francisco's Coordinated Entry System.

Compensation: $90,000 - $95,000 annually plus generous benefits

Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, primarily during standard business hours

What the Program Director will do:

The Program Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the services provided at the Central City Access Point. Specific duties include:

  • Provide direct supervision to program staff, including hiring, training, evaluation, professional development, and ongoing supervision and support.

  • Responsible for implementing all program contracts, policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for the management of Access Point contract, including housing problem solving, timely assessment and data entry, and ensuring families are connected to emergency shelter and other placements within the homeless service system.

  • Facilitate staff meetings.

  • Be available for crisis intervention, case consultation, housing problem solving, and intervention with difficult phone calls and client situations.

  • Assist with grant and contract applications.

  • Prepare statistical reports, as needed, and mandatory weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting to funders.

  • Collaborate with the Finance Department to construct annual budgets and oversee the implementation of the budget.

  • Represent the agency to the community, outside agencies, service provider groups, committees, and funders.

  • Collaborate with funders and other service providers for policy and program changes.

  • Collaborate with Compass Family Services management team.

  • Implement a trauma informed approach.

Qualifications:

  • Required: two years of direct experience as a case manager or counselor working with people who have experienced homelessness and/or other significant trauma

  • Required: leadership skills and experience, including at least two years supervising other staff

  • Proven ability to be oversee major projects or programs, track multiple work streams, and oversee the work of others

  • Experience with successful program implementation and design

  • Ability to assess and de-escalate potentially volatile situations

  • Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization

  • Desired, not required: Bilingual Spanish

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $90,000 - $95,000 annually

  • Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation in the first year, 5 weeks in following years. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave, time off for education.

  • Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children. We also provide long term disability and life insurance.

  • Retirement: after one year of work, Compass contributes an amount equal to 5% of your salary into a retirement account; this vests during years 2-6.

Location & Covid Considerations:

  • Work location: 37 Grove Street, San Francisco. Fully in person for the first three months, with possibility of one remote day per week after.

  • Covid vaccination required for all staff
