Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining and improving our San Francisco tile factory, warehouse, retail showroom, and administrative office spaces. This hands-on position involves a mix of individual and team-based tasks, including the assembly, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of ceramics manufacturing equipment. The role also focuses on maintaining the building, grounds, worker environments, and ensuring cleanliness and organization. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will collaborate closely with the Facilities Manager and other teams to uphold safety, functionality, and aesthetics.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance

  • Maintain the building and grounds to ensure a high standard of safety, appearance, and functionality 

  • Execute facility improvement projects for production workers and retail staff, including painting, concrete repair, filter replacements, equipment cleaning, and dust collector maintenance 

  • Safely dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with protocols 

  • Maintain an organized database of facility assets, stock of parts and materials, and preventative maintenance schedules 

    Machinery Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled and preventive factory equipment maintenance in coordination with the Maintenance Mechanic and custodial staff 

  • Suggest and implement process improvements and solutions for equipment 

  • Adhere to safety guidelines and report any safety concerns to management 

    Event Support

  • Assist retail and design staff with event setup, including fabricating necessary materials.

  • Support event operations and monitor staff to ensure smooth event execution.

    Qualifications

    Required :

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment supporting factory equipment 

  • Hands-on experience with repairs, including painting, concrete repair, filter replacements, equipment cleaning, and emptying dust collectors 

  • Proficiency in machine mechanics, electrical motor controls, pneumatic controls, hydraulic systems, gas-fired equipment, and basic plumbing 

  • Experience with fabrication tools such as lathes, Bridgeport mills, MIG/TIG welding.

  • Strong knowledge of safety principles and a proven safety record 

  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify and address maintenance needs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to manage maintenance documentation and schedules via computer systems 

    Preferred :

  • Experience with SolidWorks, CAD, or similar solid modeling software 

  • Fluency in Spanish 

  • Forklift certification and experience 

    Physical Requirements

  • Ability to transport materials (up to 50 lbs at a time) and perform physical tasks such as standing for long periods, climbing ladders and scaffolding, and operating machinery and power tools.

  • Must be able to work in noisy environments and in varying temperatures, with potential exposure to outdoor elements (e.g., precipitation, wind).

  • Comfortable working with hazardous materials like paint, dust, oil, and cleaning chemicals.

  • Ability to perform repetitive motions such as grasping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

    Work Environment and Compensation

    This is a full-time, non-exempt, onsite position based in our San Francisco factory, with some responsibilities at our warehouse and occasional travel to our Sausalito factory and showroom. The standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday, or as otherwise agreed upon with the Facilities Manager. The hourly pay range for this position is $31.00 - $33.00 based on experience.
