Bay Area Community Resources APG Student Leadership Specialist in San Francisco, California

The APG Beacon youth leadership position will build curriculum that focuses on independent learning projects, social and emotional awareness activities, leadership and planning skills through student led activity days, written and oral communication skills, independent living skills, interview preparedness, outdoor/active days, high school/college prep, and mentorship to other individuals.

Benefits:

  • Compensation: $24-$26 /hour DOE

  • Non-Exempt / Full Time, 30-35 hours a week

  • Schedule: Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri 10pm-4pm; Wed 10am - 4pm

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate Degree OR 48 or more college units OR pass the Instructional Aide exam

  • Must pass a criminal background check and TB test clearance

  • Able to work every day during after school hours and commit to a full academic school year required for the position

  • General knowledge base of core elementary and middle school subjects

  • Strong classroom and behavioral management skills

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Must be able to communicate openly in a professional manner with students, parents, community partners, and after-school and school day-staff

  • Must maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high degree of integrity

  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds

  • Ability to travel to required meetings and must have a clean driving record and insurance if using personal vehicle

  • Ability to work with Excel/Microsoft Office and Web based programs

  • Ability to perform basic administrative tasks and keep detailed records

  • Ability to commit to a full Academic Year

  • An ability to maintain goals and priorities when dealing with varying challenges

  • Able to be flexible in working with people and groups of differing viewpoints

  • A strong dedication to youth development

  • A sense of creativity and enthusiasm

  • Cantonese or Mandarin speakers a plus, but not necessary.

  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to receive training)

Responsibilities:

  • Support the APG Student Government:

  • Communicating with school admin and teachers

  • Student recruitment

  • Lesson Planning

  • Attendance tracking

  • Student 1:1 check-ins

  • Coordinating cumulative projects

  • APG Design Contest with PTSA

  • Coordinate with the PTSA and Counseling team to market and vote on students designs for APG gear

  • Weekly PA announcements

  • Coordinate with school administration around planning and implementing PA announcements

  • Events Committee

  • Snack Shack

  • Volunteer Outreach

  • Budget tracking

  • Lunch Clubs:

  • Implementing a youth leadership lunch club that meets weekly

  • Providing structure for the Lunch Club in terms of providing a place to meet, agendas, tasks, projects, etc.

  • Host lunchtime event each month

  • Execute administrative tasks (Lunch Club agreements, Club Constitution, meeting notes, Google Classroom, Slideshow presentations)

  • Support students in their vision and plans for the club (ex. provide feedback on writing piece ideas, collaborate with event planning, etc.)

  • Maintain the motivation and collaboration of the club through positive reinforcement and regular reminders of agreements

  • Encourage students to build leadership roles through participating in the meetings in the form of making a space for them to collaborate and share with one another in front of the group

  • Model positive and proactive attitudes, behaviors, and language

  • Communicate regularly with the Beacon Director

  • Maintain appropriate, professional and kid-friendly speech, behavior and attire all times

Above is the pay range for this position that we reasonably expect to pay. Individual compensation is based on various factors including experience/education, skillset, and geographic location.
