Google Technical Operations Program Manager in San Diego, California

Role Description

As a Technical Operations Manager for San Diego, you will lead a team of full time employees (FTEs), vendors and contractors to build and expand the GFiber network, ensure that network operations are reliable and efficient by monitoring network performance, performing planned maintenance, proactively identifying and repairing network difficulties, and responding to network connectivity issues. You will work to improve customer experience through FTE’s and production management and will lead testing, acceptance, last mile, and build operations to bring GFiber to customers as quickly as possible. Additionally, you will perform critical tasks that maintain and improve network operations and will take the technical lead in ensuring a reliable and efficient operating network.

In this role, you'll:

  • Ensure network operations are reliable and efficient by monitoring network performance, performing planned maintenance, proactively identifying and repairing network difficulties, and responding to network connectivity issues.

  • Lead a team of FTE’s/contractors/vendors to refine and implement a program to efficiently test and accept new network elements such as: fiber optic plant, ISP construction, multi-tenant buildings, network equipment, switches, wiring, radio and wireless technology.

  • Support financial planning processes such as business forecasting, target setting, and CapEx/OpEx budget. Manage operations schedule, budgets, actual costs, and performance.

  • Facilitate cross-functional communication and collaboration between the sales, construction, and installation process, providing timely updates and feedback to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Cultivate an inclusive team culture that prioritizes quality and continuous improvement, promoting a 'right the first time' approach to enhance project efficiency.

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Telecommunications, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of experience in the telecommunications or cable industry with a focus on network operations, construction, deployment, architecture, maintenance, or customer service OR 5 years of experience in general construction management, engineering, or project management with demonstrated knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure.

  • Experience managing full time employees, vendors, contracts, budgets on large-scale and multi-layered projects; and experience with Fiber and Wireless Point to Point Networks.

  • Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches and hubs.

It's preferred if you have:

  • Advanced technical expertise and hands on experience; Technical certifications (e.g., BISCI I and II; RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer)).

  • Project Management Professional Certification.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $138,000 - $151,000 + bonus + cash award + benefits. As pay varies by location, your recruiter will share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
