Description

Robert Half is seeking a skilled Project Accountant with experience in the construction industry for a temporary-to-hire opportunity. This role is perfect for professionals who excel in managing financial aspects of construction projects and are looking for a chance to demonstrate their expertise in a dynamic environment. As a Project Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing project budgets, managing financial reporting, and ensuring accurate cost tracking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Cost Management: Oversee and manage the financial aspects of construction projects, including tracking project costs, ensuring accurate job costing, and monitoring budgets versus actual expenses.

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed financial reports related to construction projects, including job cost reports, profitability analysis, and WIP (work in progress) schedules. Provide financial insights and recommendations to project managers and senior leadership.

  • Invoice Processing & Contract Management: Process and review contractor invoices, manage subcontractor payments, and ensure compliance with contract terms. Reconcile project-related accounts and resolve any discrepancies.

  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the development and maintenance of project budgets and forecasts. Analyze variances between budgeted and actual costs, providing recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements.

  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations for project accounts, ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are promptly addressed.

  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to industry regulations and internal policies. Maintain organized and accurate documentation for auditing purposes and project records.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, construction teams, and finance departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective management of project resources.

  • Month-End Close: Support the month-end close process by preparing journal entries, reconciling project accounts, and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on project accounting in the construction industry.

  • Strong understanding of construction accounting practices, including job costing, contract management, and WIP reporting.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems used in construction (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore) and advanced Excel skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with project managers and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with construction contract compliance and financial controls is a plus.
