Job Description
The Group Research Team (RG) is searching for a skilled and experienced Polymer Pilot Plant Senior Engineer to join our organization. This challenging opportunity requires expertise in process research, product development, and scale-up to support our esteemed BASF business partners throughout North America.
As a Polymer Pilot Plant Senior Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our business partners through consultation, conducting experimental testing, overseeing pilot scale development, and managing repetitive manufacturing. By closely collaborating with product development, commercial implementation, corporate engineering, and manufacturing teams, you will ensure that scientific results and new products are delivered promptly and meet the high expectations of our esteemed business partners.
Collaborating with business groups, colleagues, research chemists, and engineers to discover, develop, and scale up piloting and manufacturing processes within specified project timelines.
Developing operating disciplines, policies, and procedures for safe pilot plant trials and small-scale production.
Planning and executing projects for technology demonstration and data generation, ensuring proper documentation of environmental emissions, waste disposal, and equipment cleaning.
Assessing safety procedures and policies, actively participating in the HAZOP process, and leading safety reviews for existing and new processes and assets.
Contributing to operator training to enhance their technical knowledge and providing engineering support and training to colleagues, technicians, and the community for asset setup, troubleshooting, operation, and optimization.
Providing guidance on SDSs, chemical storage, waste disposal, handling of toxic and hazardous materials, and promoting safe laboratory operating principles.
If you...
Hold a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred) with at least 10 years of experience, or a PhD with 5+ years of experience.
Have a proven track record in scaling up process technology or chemical production, transitioning from lab to pilot scale or pilot to commercial.
Demonstrate practical experience in reaction engineering or modeling, utilizing industry-standard software such as ASPEN.
Possess extensive experience in chemical engineering unit operations, reactor design, equipment sizing, and exhibit a profound understanding of organic chemistry.
Have hands-on experience with distributive control systems and troubleshooting pilot or production chemical processes.

Skills and Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineer with 10+ years' experience, preferably in piloting and small-scale production. (MINIMUM)
Have the ability to identify hazards and apply risk mitigation techniques. (PHAs Safety Concepts, one would use to identify hazards and correct it)
Have experience scaling up process technology or chemical production, from lab to pilot scale or pilot to commercial. (MUST)
Are experienced in SDSs, chemical storage, waste disposal, handling of toxic & hazardous materials, as well as safe laboratory operating principles. (MUST)
Have a strong understanding of organic chemistry.
Have experience with chemical engineering unit operations and reactor design, including equipment sizing.
Have hands-on experience with distributive control systems and troubleshooting pilot or production chemical processes. (MUST) lead technicians with troubleshooting
*Have expertise in polymer reaction synthesis.
