Marine Electrician - Immediately Hiring - Career Opportunity - San Diego, CA

Job Description

The Marine Electrician will perform electrical repair and new construction aboard private vessels, ensuring all electrical services on the ship are functioning correctly. This includes laying out, pulling, lifting out, and installing cable and conduit, preparing work areas, drilling holes, grinding metal surfaces, welding mounting equipment, testing electrical equipment, and other related tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare work areas, drill holes, and grind metal surfaces

  • Install welds and hook up equipment

  • Lay out, pull, rip out, repair, and install cable and conduit

  • Test electrical equipment

  • Read composite blueprints, computer printouts, and Navy standards manual

  • Remove scrap and perform general clean-up

  • Perform other tasks relevant to the trade as assigned

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of Navy AC (60 and 400 Hz) and DC electrical systems

  • Knowledge of Navy electrical and electronic systems

  • Ability to troubleshoot, disassemble, and inspect electrical equipment

  • Experience cleaning electrical equipment and parts, reassembling, and operationally testing equipment

  • Familiarity with electrical systems such as switchboards, switchgear, distribution panels, controls, etc.

  • Proficiency with common electrical measuring instruments and various electronic measuring devices such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, power analyzers, and megohmmeters

  • Use of Precision Measuring Instrumentation

  • Experience with cable run fabrication and wire way fabrication

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Must have two years marine electrical experience and/or four years electrical experience

  • Ability to use power and hand tools and read composite blueprints, computer printouts, and Navy standards manuals

  • Must have the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces

  • Must comprehend written and verbal instructions and hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings

  • Must be able to complete 9 hook-ups a day

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.
