Job Description

HII Mission Technologies is searching for a candidate to fill the role of Network Administrator III, works onsite at Naval Base Point Loma supporting Tactical Training Group Pacific (TTGP) in providing Network and Systems Administration directly to training staff and the Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Programs of Record. Position requires flexibility to work occasional non-standard work hours and work weeks of more than 40 hours to meet business, customer, and contractual requirements. The candidate will design and implement simulation system and C5I system configurations for war-games. Configures and runs gateways connecting various virtual and constructive simulation systems using High-Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocols to generate the overall federated synthetic battle space during joint tactical and operational war games. The candidate will Integrate Modeling and Simulation to Navy and Joint C5I systems to generate Common Operational Picture (COP)/Common Tactical Picture (CTP) for the training audience.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Maintains smooth operation of local area, world wide and virtual private networks (VPN). Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions. Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems. May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. May design network or portion of network that include selection of hardware and software packages.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Configure and run JBUS’s and gateways to connect JSAF suite to various C5I systems and other M&S systems as required for training events

  • Configure gateways and communications paths for C5I systems to connect them to the simulation to generate the required CTP/ COP for the training audience.

  • Coordinate with the NOSC to open network paths and troubleshoot system connectivity problems during testing and war games

  • Monitor the stability of the architecture during testing and training events and trouble shoot and correct issues as they occur.

  • Work with NITE team to ensure that C5I systems are maintained at a high state of readiness for all training events.

  • Work with NITE team to upgrade/patch C5I systems as required and test all systems after upgrades and patching to verify functionality.

  • Coordinate with JSAF and JBUS developers to integrate and test new capabilities as they are fielded

  • Coordinate with JSAF and JBUS developers to generate new capabilities and improvements needed by the supported command (input JIRA tickets).

  • Customer Responsibilities - Document training system deficiencies and processes identified during testing and exercise execution. Prepare After Action Reports (AAR), Lessons Learned (LL), briefing, training completion reports/status, and any in-process/recommendations for improvement in support FST and classroom events and exercises.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in related field or 10 years experience with military C4I systems operational and technical integration and system administration.

  • Required IT certifications: Linux Operating System; CompTIA Security + CE (or equivalent or higher).

  • Experience in Linux system administration and basic networking configurations and protocols

  • 5 years experience with Modeling and Simulation systems using HLA and DIS protocols

  • Ability to read and digest technical information.

  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot system problems in a high intensity environment to assure continue execution of war gaming/training events.

  • Strong customer focus, including the ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities.

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in the use of desktop or personal computers with associated software (i.e. word processing, graphics, database, spreadsheets, etc.) or other computer products as required by the applicable discipline.

  • Able to work late hours when required, and have flexibility to adjust working hours to accommodate the needs of the customer

Physical Requirements

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 25 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness. Able to lift 25 lbs, job is mainly sedentary with work occurring in multiple buildings with walking distance.
