Navy Federal Credit Union Fraud Investigator I-OMBP in San Antonio, Texas

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented candidate to assist with the optimization of our organization’s processes. The Fraud Investigator is primarily responsible for performing and documenting investigations pursuant to possible fraud and suspicious activity monitoring. The ideal candidate will have a strong background of fraud triage, mitigation, investigation and recovery activities on known fraud or unusual activity. As a possible candidate, you will need to collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency, ensure compliance, mitigate fraud risk and assist in optimizing the performance of all business operations. Investigate operational processes and procedures to determine feasible and effective solutions. Present findings and recommendations to management. Works independently under general supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate various types of transactions/activities/cases (e.g., ID Theft and Synthetic ID, Check Fraud, Account Takeover fraud) including reported or alleged loss of assets from various business channels

  • Respond to inquiries using various communication venues to provide explanation for action taken in response to a specific alert or case

  • Communicate with internal and external customers on fraud and security issues, problem resolution, account information and investigations

  • Review data gathered to substantiate/disqualify a loss claim or charge off, and escalate as needed

  • Create detailed reports of investigations to include actions taken and results

  • Prepare and maintain data for analysis and reference

  • Detect fraud trends, red flags and recommend preventive measures to business units and management

  • Collaborate with other business units to gain an understanding of transactions, processes and procedures, their impact on other business units processes and procedures, and identify risk potential for fraudulent activity

  • Identify risk exposure/fraud activity, and recommend restorative/control action (e.g., freezing accounts, contacting/alerting members or appropriate internal/external security/financial personnel, adding restrictions or fraud alerts or holds to members accounts)

  • Evaluate operational efficiency and effectiveness

  • The ability to analyze existing processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements.

  • Analyze existing procedures and identify areas for improvement

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • 4-5 years of experience within the financial industry

  • 1-3 years of experience in Fraud detection/investigation

  • Experience in problem resolution including determining root cause, scope and scale of issues

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex issues both verbally and in writing

  • Advanced skill following, interpreting and applying relevant data/instructions to guidelines, procedures, practices and regulations

  • Significant experience in working effectively with diverse internal and external contacts

  • Significant experience in managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals

  • Ability to work independently on multiple issues concurrently and to exercise independent judgment in establishing priorities

  • Familiarity with applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations

  • Familiarity with fraud trends and threats

  • Basic skill in identifying and responding to Red Flags

  • Basic organizational, planning and time management skills

  • Basic investigative, research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Finance or the equivalent combination of training, education and experience

  • Working knowledge of AML regulations within the financial industry

  • Working knowledge of OFAC guidelines and regulations

  • Working knowledge of CDD, EDD and KYC guidelines within the financial industry

  • Advanced word processing and spreadsheet software skills

  • Advanced database and presentation software skills

  • Working knowledge of operational and regulatory risk control concepts and practices

  • Working knowledge of fraud and loss mitigation investigative processes

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
