Job Summary

The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is located on the campus of the University of Utah, and offers visitors the opportunity to explore over 5,000 years of human creativity with a collection of over 20,000 objects and art works from classic Greek and Roman antiquities to cutting-edge, contemporary art. Founded in 1914, the UMFA is the State of Utah’s official museum, creating exhibitions and programs which serve a wide array of audiences. The Museum is located in the award-winning Marcia and John Price Museum Building.

The Security Staff is responsible for protecting the art and delivering excellent customer service while making sure all policies and procedures are followed by visitors, staff, volunteers, and colleagues.

Responsibilities

Building Security and Safety: Secure UMFA buildings to prevent theft and property damage by locking and unlocking doors, turning off lights and electrical devices after hours, and applying preventive measures to minimize hazards. Ensure guests understand and follow museum rules to protect the UMFA’s collection.

Patrols and Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of the UMFA , inspecting doors, windows, and controlled spaces to check for damage to the collection, building maintenance needs, and any other changes to the environment. Camera and security systems monitoring is also a part of daily surveillance.

Emergency Response and Support: Assist the Fire Department and First Responders during emergencies by unlocking buildings for entry, helping with crowd control, applying first-aid, and contacting University Police when necessary.

Customer Service and Community Support: Work closely with other front of house teams, management, and the public to ensure a secure, friendly, and welcoming experience for all visitors to UMFA , fostering a collaborative and positive atmosphere.

Log Maintenance and Incident Reporting: Maintain accurate logs of security activities and incidents, report potential security issues to department heads, and any illegal behavior to University Police.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

Some customer service experience; one year security experience or equivalency; successfully pass a background check; demonstrated communications skills; and a commitment to providing excellent customer service required. A valid Utah Driver’s License preferred. CPR and AED certification preferred.
