The Chief Safety Officer (CSO) for the University is the Director of Public Safety and serves as chief of police services. This role ensures the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors at multiple healthcare facilities associated with the University of Utah, including the University Medical Center, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Huntsman Mental Health Institute, and several regional health centers.Team members work under the direction of the University of Utah Chief Safety Officer in a dynamic 24/7 environment, with shifts during mornings, evenings, and overnight. Depending on location, employees may work 10-hour or 13-hour shifts, offering a schedule that provides ample days off and promotes a healthy work-life balance.This role encompasses responsibilities in various areas, including a Level 1 trauma center setting, and provides opportunities to work in uniformed operations and patrol, dispatch, investigations, training, and risk assessment. Employees receive specialized training to work effectively with patients and address healthcare security's unique challenges.We prioritize professional development, mentoring, and coaching, with a strong focus on promoting internal candidates within the organization.
