$58,661.00 - $87,993.00DOE*

JOB SUMMARY

Organizes and analyzes criminal information throughout the valley. Maintains and stores crime information. Offers support to the Investigation Division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Social or Behavioral Sciences, or related field; and three (3) years of law enforcement related, research related, or analysis related work experience or equivalent education (courses such as criminal justice, criminology, research methods, statistics, sociology, etc.)OR Seven (7) years of related experience.

Previous crime analysis work experience with a public safety agency preferred.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required Sheriff’s Office pre-employment background check. Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.

Must reside within 35 miles from the center of Salt Lake County (4748 S. 440 W) to ensure compliance with the Sheriff’s Office vehicle use policy and timely call out response.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Utilizes GIS databases and other data to analyze crime trends to assist in officer deployment, strategic planning, and grant proposals.

  • Researches, assembles and analyzes reports and other types of information, isolating elements of data to complete a graphical association matrix for determination of subject’s case involvement and to provide investigative leads for Law Enforcement Bureau (LEB) personnel, and other law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.

  • Gathers and evaluates suspect and crime analysis information. Uses information to develop flow charts, graphs, and other crime analysis charts to assist in developing suspect identification.

  • Graphically illustrates alleged relationships and criminal activities to assist investigations and/or attorneys in arriving at conclusions.

  • Prepares charts, graphs and reports for presentation of evidence in court, assisting the D.A.'s Office in criminal cases, allowing the judge and/or jury to follow the elements of the crimes being prosecuted through visual aids.

  • Coordinates investigative and intelligence information with Local, State and Federal law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.

  • Prepares and provides GIS mapping for the LEB and community action groups. Assists crime prevention by identifying high crime areas, crime trends and by forecasting crime occurrences by geographic location.

  • Provides statistical reports, maps, and graphs for community action programs, monthly community council meetings, crime watch patrols, and other organizations as authorized by supervisor.

  • Assists in gathering information, utilizes graphic programs to create the bulleting format and other law enforcement flyers and publications, assembles and distributes information to authorized agencies.

  • Ensures efficient allocation of assets by providing comparison studies between the number of crimes and the number of officers, COP Officers and Traffic Officers in a defined geographical area.

  • Ensures efficient filing of reports and works with the LEB Records to correct errors in the system.

  • Performs RISsafe entries for Officer Safety issues and Intelligence sharing

  • Performs investigative support for call outs including Missing/Endangered, Homicides, burglaries, anything that needs UPIC to spin up.

  • Works with investigations to run PENLINK on wire taps.

  • Works closely with outside agencies such as FBI, US Marshal’s Office, Homeland Security, and County Engineers.

  • Performs support for Metro Gang Unit by providing gang charting, intelligence packets, traffic studies, hot spot mapping, gang related crimes, and statistics for schools.

  • Produces photo lineups for LEB and external law enforcement agencies.

  • Performs criminal history background checks for Investigative support.
