POSITION SUMMARY The Senior Director of Data Operations leads the organization's technology systems, technology team, and data strategy. The role advances data and analytics in the organization, including increasing organizational data access and literacy, improving data quality, guiding data strategy and implementation of technical infrastructure, and managing organization-wide data governance and data privacy programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership, Supervision & Management
Serve as the senior-most leader for technology and data for Utah's Promise. Advise, recommend, and lead Utah's Promise's senior leadership team on initiatives related to operational and programmatic success using data and technology.
Lead a high-performing technical team, providing mentorship and professional development. Directly supervise an IT Support Technician and Senior Systems Administrator, with potential to expand team in the future.
Work with the Chief of Staff to build and manage the Strategy and Data department budget and multi-year roadmap. Work with the CFO to advise and inform multi-year expenses related to technology infrastructure investments across the organization.
Information Technology
Champion solutions for the organization's technology needs, focusing on intuitive and automated data access that supports organizational priorities and goals.
Lead organizational strategy and decision-making related to network(s), hardware, enterprise and specific org-approved software solutions. Supervise the IT Support Technician and "super users" and coordinators in other departments to deliver support, training, and implementation of technology systems.
Manage the organization's IT Security planning, including assessment, goal setting, and supervising the IT Support Technician to monitor and report. Ensure organizational data and applications are secure and supervise the IT Support Technician to coordinate staff training related to phishing and safe IT Security behavior.
Advise stakeholders across the organization on their use of data and technology, particularly before acquiring a new technology tool or data source. Project manage the vetting of technology products and maintain relationships with vendors. Lead vendor selection process for technology purchases.
Ensure strong, intuitive access to user support, training, and documentation for all systems organization-wide through responsive customer service, issue/request triage, feature and bug prioritization, and adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Foster business ownership within other departments related to technology tools. Supervise the IT Support Technician to develop user facing documentation and Learning Management Systems courses.
Serve as lead technical owner of non-CRM enterprise systems including NetSuite, Tableau, SQL Server, etc.
Ensure the continuous maintenance of all core enterprise operating systems, including scheduled maintenance, software updates, infrastructure upgrades, security patches, etc
Oversee Information Technology Managed Service Provider, ensuring technology hardware deliverables and needs are met.
Data Strategy, Culture, and Governance
Develop and lead a multi-year organizational data strategy in pursuit of our data "Guiding Star," including coordinating with the leadership team to set and communicate clear goals and vision for the organization.
Understand our overall data infrastructure (what data lives where), continuously analyze its gaps or limits, and lead efforts to improve data access, visibility, quality, and use.
Work with the leadership team to maintain and promote the use of organizational dashboards to make progress against strategy and key metrics visible and actionable.
Lead cross-departmental data governance structure and hold accountability for its KPIs and workplan.
Manage data privacy/data sharing program and policies, including tracking and sometimes delivering training, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and drafting policy recommendations related to data privacy.
Lead an internal initiative to co-create a definition and roadmap for a culture of data use, literacy, and strategy across the organization.
Collaborate with data and technology roles on all teams in understanding organizational priorities, KPIs, and strategies and supporting processes and systems to track and report on them.
Work across all departments to identify and anticipate data needs, build solutions, and guide people to use those solutions to act.
Supervise the Senior Systems Administrator to translate business requirements into technical designs to inform structure and content of database reports.
Act as an internal coach and expert at simplifying complex data into understandable stories, run charts, and insights. Support data roles across the organization to create dashboards, data visualizations and other tools as needed in support of all teams' primary tasks.
External Partner Engagement
Manage relationships with technology vendors. Work with vendors to address challenges then implement and communicate with stakeholders as needed.
Act as primary contact and relationship manager with consultants and vendors related to the areas of work above, especially data sharing, data strategy, IT security, and IT systems.
