University of Utah Health Senior Communications Specialist - Nursing Administration in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Overview

This position plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) by developing and preparing written and visual materials for communication and public speaking engagements. The responsibilities include the planning, designing, organizing, and implementing comprehensive communication strategies for University of Utah Health Hospitals & Clinics Department of Nursing. These efforts are aimed at advancing the department’s strategic priorities and promoting nursing excellence.

The Senior Communications Specialist also plays a key role in creating, executing, and overseeing a broad range of communications initiatives designed to engage and inform staff and other stakeholders within the healthcare setting. This role leverages professional experience and industry knowledge to independently complete complex communication projects, ensuring alignment with UUHC’s strategic goals and nursing standards. This position is ideal for a professional with demonstrated expertise in communication strategy, content development, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualified applicants must have completed:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, Business, a related field, or equivalency.

  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in writing and editing a wide range of content.

Preferred skills and experience that also contribute to this role include:

  • Experience in a healthcare or clinical environment.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, or graphic design tools.

  • Experience with data analysis and reporting of communication metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates communication strategies tailored to nursing operations, projects, and initiatives.

  • Writes, edits, and oversees a range of materials, including newsletters, reports, intranet content, social media updates, marketing collateral, presentations, and more.

  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, including nursing leadership, HR, and other departments, to produce targeted messages that support key initiatives.

  • Manages communication projects from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and strategic objectives.

  • Identifies, utilizes, and evaluates the effectiveness of multiple communication channels (digital, print, multimedia) to maximize impact and engagement.

  • Ensures that all communication materials adhere to UUHC’s branding guidelines and professional standards for nursing and clinical environments.

  • Provides editorial oversight for nursing-related communications, offering guidance, proofreading, and content refinement to ensure clarity, accuracy, and impact.

  • Gathers, analyzes, and utilizes data (such as audience feedback and communication metrics) to continuously improve communication strategies and outcomes.

  • Partners in planning and executing communication for events, campaigns, and nursing recognition initiatives, providing in-person support when needed.

  • Serves as a resource for less experienced colleagues and works collaboratively across departments to drive alignment and communication effectiveness.

  • May perform other related technical and communication duties, as assigned.

  • Proficiency in creating compelling content tailored to varied audiences and channels.

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work on multiple initiatives concurrently.

  • Expertise in building stakeholder relationships and influencing positive outcomes through communication strategies.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
