Details

A suitable Research Faculty Member will play a crucial role in conducting innovative plastic surgical research projects related to wound healing and nerve regeneration, contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge, and promoting evidence-based practices in the field of plastic surgery. The successful candidate will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the School of Medicine, engage in translational research, write applications for extramural research funding, and disseminate research findings through publications and presentations. Opportunities to participate in veteran-related research studies are also available.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biology, or a related field from an accredited US institution with up to 3 years of post-graduation research experience. Candidate must have a track record in conducting medical research and/or successfully applying for and receiving grants. Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, collaborating with clinicians, healthcare professionals, and research study personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Innovation and Critical Thinking : Proactive approach to clinical research, willingness to explore innovative research approaches, and ability to think critically and creatively. Ability to develop research questions, plan multidisciplinary projects focused on wound healing and nerve regeneration.

  • Research Leadership : Lead and conduct cutting-edge research in plastic surgery, focusing on wound healing and nerve regeneration.

  • Grant Success : Pursue independent grant funding as a Principal Investigator or co-investigator.

  • Ethical Understanding : Strong understanding of ethical considerations in research involving human participants and animal research.

  • Regulatory Compliance : Ability to adhere to and provide oversight of institutional and regulatory guidelines.

  • Organizational Skills : Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.

  • Funding Acquisition : Secure external funding through grant writing and proposal submissions within the 3-year period of appointment.

  • Publication and Presentation : Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.

  • Clinical Research Collaboration (if applicable): Provide clinical research support to clinical trials.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration : Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and external partners.

  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of advancements in the field through continuous professional development.

  • Staff Supervision : Supervise and mentor research staff, ensuring compliance with research protocols.

  • Community Engagement : Participate in community outreach and public education initiatives at the departmental, university, and committee levels.
