Job Summary

The Reporter/Producer is the primary on-camera producer/reporter for public affairs content and topical, statewide storytelling in a variety of formats and platforms. The ideal candidate will be a digitally-savvy journalist experienced with ideating, researching, reporting, storytelling, writing and video editing news or public affairs content [from 1 to 3 minutes] as well as longer stories [from 3 to 8 minutes]. The ideal candidate has exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and excellent organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  1. Report, host, produce, research, write and edit for public affairs or news content

  2. Host and moderate live governmental affairs programs such as Governor’s Monthly News Conference, debates and inaugurations

  3. High degree of editing proficiency using the Adobe Premiere Suite

  4. Ability to work collaboratively, take direction, and receive constructive feedback in the spirit it was given

  5. Ability to adhere to high editorial standards and a journalistic code of ethics and integrity

  6. Ensures that content aligns with PBS Utah’s strategic goals and brand identity

  7. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Film Studies, related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required plus three year of directly related in instructional or commercial media prodution. Good writing skills and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Preferences

  • Ability and/or willingness to shoot is advantageous

  • Familiarity with producing vertical, short-form videos

  • Familiarity with statewide and regional topical issues

  • Ability to build trust and understand various perspectives with diverse communities

  • Ability to write and speak fluently in a second language is advantageous
