Description

Wheeler Machinery Co. is seeking a safety-minded Power Systems Field Service Technician based out of Salt Lake City, UT. This is a full-time benefited position. Keep safety first in all tasks while utilizing TRACK/Tyfoom. Will be responsible for safely diagnosing and repairing a variety of Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar equipment on site. In this position, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing Caterpillar engines, generators and transfer switches.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Remove and install engines in equipment chassis, enclosures, and skids.

  • Remove and install components on engines and generators, in and out of chassis, enclosures, and skids.

  • Rebuild engine components including fuel, cooling, lubricating, and electrical systems.

  • Document time and work performed in a precise, detailed manner.

  • Ability to comply with Wheeler and Cat sponsored training.

  • Diagnose problems and make recommendations for repairs.

  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule.

  • Must be able to perform all phases of assembly and disassembly with minimal or no supervision.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and accomplish work with minimum supervision.

  • Must have the ability to install and operate all relevant test and diagnostic equipment required for the work being performed.

  • Successfully manage parts orders, warranty information, service reports, and other documentation required to complete repairs.

  • Must complete required paperwork on a daily basis with good computer and organization skills being a requirement.

  • Have and develop the ability to work in high pressure situations while maintaining a professional attitude.

  • Willing to complete all job tasks as required by team leader, supervisor, and management.

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires long hours/days working out of town, including evenings, nights, and weekends with exposure to the elements (heat/cold).

  • Must have a good safety record as safety will be this role's top priority with a commitment to follow Wheeler safety policies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of engine/generator theory and operation.

  • Understanding of electric power generation and components related to standby and prime power generator applications.

  • Perform repairs to engines, generators, and other electrical equipment related to the EPG industry.

  • Good knowledge of CAT equipment with troubleshooting skills and experience using CAT ET, SIS, and other CAT web tools.

  • Excellent work ethic with safety, quality, and customer service being a priority.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Windows Operating System.)

  • Must be willing to work overtime on short notice as the need arises.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional attitude and appearance.

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) with clean driving history required.

  • Must own a complete set of tools.

  • Demonstrates well-developed technical skills and is a proficient troubleshooter including strong problem solving skills.

  • Two year's power generation experience.

  • Current MSHA
