Job Summary

The Rower Laboratory within the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy is a clinical pharmacology laboratory focused on developing personalized medicine strategies, particularly in the setting of pediatric pharmacotherapy. Situated within the Center for Human Toxicology, we utilize a combination of bioanalysis and pharmacometrics techniques to define dose-exposure-response relationships for drugs used in the pediatric population. Current areas of interest include the use of tacrolimus for pediatric (heart) transplant, (val)ganciclovir in the treatment of congenital cytomegalovirus, and the neurodevelopmental impact of adolescent cannabis use, though the Center’s role as a service recharge center for the University of Utah and a bioanalytical testing site for contracts with NIDA and NINDS provides data and collaborators from a wide array of research interests.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will learn or advance skills in bioanalytical method development and sample analysis, as well as the construction of pharmacometrics models to define the impact of covariates on dose-exposure-response relationships for a drug of interest. It is expected that the successful candidate will balance data collection/analysis with disseminating the work both as publications to appropriate journals and as grant proposals.This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at (College of Pharmacy) if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

Minimum Qualifications

The applicant should have knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, chemicals, and other related materials. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment (specifically LC-MS/MS instrumentation), ability to create and analyze statistical calculations, and prepare requisite reports, publications, and grant proposals. Prior experience developing novel bioanalytical methods and working with ThermoFisher MS/MS (and Xcalibur software) and/or Waters MS/MS (and MassLynx/TargetLynx software) a plus. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience or an interest in completing pharmacometrics analyses with the collected data, to include use of Phoenix WinNonLin, NONMEM , and other pharmacometrics software platforms. Demonstrates effective inter-personal and communications skills. OSHA training and certification in handling biohazardous materials and chemical waste will be required.
