Job Summary
The Office of Undergraduate Studies invites applications for the position of Student Support Services ( SSS ) Manager. From admission to graduation, the units of the Office of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Utah provide every student with an exceptional educational experience that empowers them to lead transformational lives wherever their educational and professional futures take them.
The TRIO Student Support Services ( SSS ) program is a federally funded college success program that serves qualifying low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities. The Student Support Services Manager develops and implements policies, programs, and financial objectives. Under minimal supervision, is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing all aspects pertaining to student service functions of Student Support Services’ internal and external partners. This includes (but is not limited to) staffing; financial management operations; development of curriculum, workshops, and other education materials specific to academic programs; and academic advising. The Manager also acts as a catalyst between the department and its students and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.

Responsibilities
Assist Director in the development and implementation of student-centered services, staff management, and financial objectives for the TRIO Student Support Services ( SSS ) Program consistent with the University of Utah’s goals and objectives.
Assist in the recruitment and selection of SSS Program participants in accordance with federal legislation.
Maintain a cohort of SSS students and provide advising services by maintaining participant records and monitoring the academic progress of participants.
Markets and promotes new and existing programs and services to internal and external partners.
Assesses the needs of students and adjusts the structure of the program to address those needs.
Lead data collection efforts for the Annual Progress Report ( APR ) for the grant for the U.S. Department of Education.
Maintain accurate program records.
Assist the Director with timely program evaluations toward continuous improvement in the quality of program services and the attainment of program outcome objectives.
Participates in University-wide committees to establish student-centered standards and administrative plans and policies.
Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
Ensures student satisfaction by analyzing course feedback, complaints, concerns, suggestions and providing appropriate follow-through.
Develops departmental strategies consistent with the assigned department’s continuous quality improvement program.
Ensures competency of staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and through ongoing staff performance evaluations.
Assist in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, and supervision, and evaluation of all SSS Staff including SSS program coordinator, tutors, and others hired to support the program.
Participates in the development and interpretation of department policies to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
Establishes internal objectives (short and long-term goals) and implements procedures to meet goals.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Preferences
Four to six years of progressively more responsible professional staff management experience. 2. Two to three years of TRIO experience strongly preferred.
Two to three years demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income. first generation students, including English Learners, and their families strongly preferred.
Masters degree in a relevant field
