Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, responsible for planning, organizing, directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to research functions of assigned department’s internal and external customer service, human resource and financial management operations pertaining to areas including (but not limited to) research and development in geological, chemical, biological, and archeological studies, statistical methods, technical reporting, and outcomes publishing. Acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers and staff to ensure continuity and quality of service and care.
Responsibilities
Perform muscle development and regeneration experiments, working in a team with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Harvest, prepare, and process tissue for histological staining, immunofluorescence, and RNA in situ hybridization. Strong focus on whole-mount confocal and 2 photon imaging.
Perform tissue culture experiments.
Molecular biology experiments including western blots, qPCR, and cloning.
Perform and analyze bulk and single cell RNA -seq experiments.
Manage mouse colony
Oversee ordering, stocking, and inventory of laboratory supplies and maintenance of equipment.
Mentor trainees in the lab.
Enthusiasm for science essential.
Problem Solving :
The Research Manager will conduct research on muscle development, regeneration, or viral effects of muscle structure and function. Work requires exercising independent judgment and knowledge of biology and scientific methods. Work is team-based and overseen by the lab head, Gabrielle Kardon.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 4 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
