    JOB SUMMARY

    Perform HVAC Control systems programming, troubleshooting, installation, commissioning, and preventative maintenance related to mechanical, electrical, and low voltage controls components to

    maintain comfortable, safe, productive, and energy efficient county facilities.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Four (4) years’ experience programming and maintaining HVAC control systems of which two (2) years must have been in the installation of controls.

    High School Diploma or equivalent.

    Strong working knowledge of Alerton Controls

    Current Alerton Certified Engineer strongly preferred.

    Knowledge of Johnson Controls (Metasys) and other DDC control systems preferred.

    A valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Utah shall be required at the time of hire.

    Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

    Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position. Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with Salt Lake County’s Energy and Mechanical Operations Managers to trend equipment performance, verify sequence of operation (SOO) of equipment, program Alerton devices, and integrate non-Alerton equipment devices into the county’s HVAC control system using the BACnet protocol.

  • Install or upgrade control systems in existing facilities to current county standards and connect to the BAS controls system.

  • Troubleshoot communication and control issues as well as manage all displays, schedules, trend logs, alarms, etc. as needed from building equipment performance evaluations.

  • Diagnose, repair, and calibrate sensors, controllers, actuators, and accessory devices related to both direct digital and traditional electric/electro-mechanical and pneumatic control systems.

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and written with fellow employees, customers, supervisors, and management

  • Work with and provide direction to the HVAC team for technical HVAC sequence of operation or fault related questions. Assist HVAC technicians in troubleshooting and repairing controls equipment.

  • Provide Training to the HVAC team on control systems.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

    Knowledge of:

  • Basic networking and interface protocols and procedures.

  • Installation, programming, and networking of Alerton, and third-party devices in a Building Automation System (BAS).

  • Standard practices and procedures in the installation of a BAS.

  • Mechanical HVAC Systems, their design and operation.

  • Use of Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Word, and Excel programs.

  • Proper use of PPE and other safety equipment, and safety procedures and protocols.

  • Read and interpret control wiring and other electrical diagrams/schematics.

  • Modify control system software, including operator interface graphics, control logic, etc.

  • Set up alarm and trend logs for equipment to analyze system operation and efficiency.

  • Using test equipment such as multi-meters, amp probes, air, and water flow measurement devices, setting up data acquisition systems, calibrating sensors, and tuning control loops.

    Skills and Abilities to:

  • Proficient use of a computer to program, upgrade, and modify displays, set-up trends, alarms, schedules, etc., and update BAS software.

  • Trouble shoot and diagnose communication and other control issues with various types of HVAC systems and their associated components.

  • Provide viable solutions to correct issues and implement those solutions in a timely manner.

  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings.

  • Ability to work efficiently, productively, and with minimal supervision.
