Job Summary

Provides support to individuals utilizing the Student Health Center and other Health and Wellness offices at the University of Utah. This position is designed to aid patients in navigating their health insurance coverage by answering questions about the Student Health Insurance Plan ( SHIP ) benefits, working with insurers, and advising students and their dependents about the resources that are available to them.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Answer questions from patients at the Student Health Center regarding their SHIP insurance coverage, prescription coverage tiers, and benefits and eligibility.

  • Manage the main Student Health Center email inbox by either responding to messages or forwarding to the appropriate staff member.

  • Function as a liaison between the Student Health Center and the other Health and Wellness offices.

  • Advise students on what to look for with an insurance plan and how to compare different types of coverage including Medicaid.

  • Assist students in determining what medical and mental health coverage they have through their current insurance plans, and help students find in-network options for care.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education) in a related area and a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service and effective communication skills required.

Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Ability to work independently, analyze, and make decisions to provide support to internal and external customers.

Preferences

  • Prior experience as an Affordable Care Act Insurance Navigator

  • Understanding of Affordable Care Act guidelines.

  • Experience advising patients on health insurance options.
