    Fire Alarm Technician

Delta has a large customer base of heavy industrial clients in the power and mining sectors. These sites are all across Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado primarily; however, some sites are in Idaho, Nevada, and Washington State. This position requires 80% travel, with 20% in the greater Salt Lake City area. The individual does not need to live in Salt Lake City—if willing to always travel between the above-named states, this could likely be a fulltime position on-the-road, if desired. The 90% of the travel time would be throughout Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. Many times this position, if applicable has adequate technical experience, would be stationed at one jobsite consecutively for 1-4 weeks at a time, but at a power plant or other industrial facility. Applicant must be willing to travel. Applicant ideally has prior industrial work experience working on fire alarm, fire protection systems, fire extinguishers, and/or electrical systems. We are especially encouraging applicants who are or were journeyman and/or master electricians, who have prior experience installing EMT and rigid conduit, who are willing to learn the low voltage fire alarm side. An active high voltage electrical license is NOT required.

The duties of this position include: testing and inspection of fire alarm systems; preventive maintenance with knowledge of multiple manufacturers’ products; installation of conduit (ideally both EMT and rigid; and a willingness to train others on their installations); daily communication with internal staff and external customers; completion of daily safety forms (site specific from the customer and internal company forms). Applicant needs to be self-motivated, able to work without daily supervision, customer service-oriented individual with strong communication and field technical skills. This individual will provide accurate and detailed inspections reports with all proper documentation of improvements and complications. Based on individual’s management and field experience, position could also include supervisory or training opportunities. This is a non-bargaining unit position.

    Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections, testing, installation, and preventative maintenance of life safety product lines

  • Handle low voltage wiring and corresponding devices for the operation of low voltage equipment

  • Install (and/or train and supervise the installation of) EMT and Rigid conduit

  • Daily communications with Schedule Coordinator or Direct Supervisor regarding delays, requirements and general status of jobs

  • Work with Project Manager, Schedule Coordinator and Office Administrative Staff to ensure complete closeout and turnover of contract jobs to the client (Confirm that work is completed so it can be billed in full)

  • Responsible for training new trainees on Company procedures, customer relations, and proper (to NFPA standards and company policies) system inspection and installation methods

    Qualifications:

  • NICET Level II or III preferred, but not required (must be willing to work towards)

  • Fire Alarm or Low Voltage License in state where working (in order of priority):

  • Utah Level II or III Fire Alarm Inspection Certificate of Registration

  • Wyoming Low Voltage Electrical Technician

  • Nevada F Card

  • State of Idaho Limited Energy Journeyman License

  • Cross training in all fire protection fields (fire alarm, clean agent/special hazards, fire extinguisher, fixed wet/dry chemical suppression systems, backflow prevention, fire sprinkler, emergency lighting) preferred. Primary need is fire alarm systems; however, electrician basis is acceptable. Must be willing to be fully trained and capable on fire extinguishers within the first 3 months if no prior experience. As this is a non-bargaining unit position, position will not be installing fire sprinkler systems or any piping. General familiarity of all fire suppression systems, especially complex systems (clean agent, water mist, deluge, preaction, etc.) found at heavy industrial sites is preferred to avoid accidental discharge of specialty systems.

  • Strong working knowledge of life safety and NFPA codes (especially NFPA 72 and 70, but also 10 and 25 preferred).

  • Working knowledge of alarm panels, devices, wiring and pathways, and critical components, including programming these systems

  • Willing to perform testing and maintenance

  • Able to complete documentation as necessary; proficient in the use of iPad, computers and Microsoft Office

  • Willing to coordinate between inspection deficiencies and service required to correct found deficiencies

  • Basic understanding of Security/CCTV/Access Control is preferred but not required

  • Prepared to read and write English clearly

  • Capability to present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and the general public

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, background and reference checks

    Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Regular bending, reaching, climbing and walking

All qualified applicants with Delta Fire Systems, Inc. will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation and gender identity, national origin or status as a qualified individual with a disability or protected veteran.
