JOB SUMMARY :

UtahPresents seeks a Finance Manager to join its leadership team. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Manager helps ensure UtahPresents’ successful operations, fiscal health, and continued growth. They are responsible for both supporting day-to-day business functions and advising on long-term strategic direction. A pivotal member of UtahPresents’ team, the Finance Manager balances a portfolio of accounting, financial, and other administrative duties. It is estimated that 70% of the Finance Manager’s time will be spent on accounting and 30% on other financial and administrative duties.

The Finance Manager is responsible for managing the UtahPresents annual budget, which is currently around $2.5M and comprised of both restricted and unrestricted program and operational revenues and expenses. Additionally, the Finance Manager assists with significant rental event business volume year-round, settling ticket revenues against venue costs. This position serves as a liaison between UtahPresents and the University regarding financial matters, and they work closely with the UtahPresents Advisory Board’s Finance Committee. Other responsibilities include significant bookkeeping and accounts management, preparing financial reports and providing analysis, completing an annual audit, and payroll oversight.

Directly supporting on-site operations, the Finance Manager will primarily work from UtahPresents’ offices at Kingsbury Hall. Flexibility exists to work remotely at times, as agreed to by the Executive Director.

The salary range is $60,000 – $75,000 and commensurate with experience. Responsibilities

1. Administer UtahPresents finances through bookkeeping and accounts management

  • Manage accounts payable including submitting bills to the University’s accounts payable department, communicating with vendors, and overseeing payments to artists and renters

  • Manage deposits and revenue recognition including from ticket and concession sales, venue rentals, grants, individual donations, and other sources

  • Reconcile balance sheets, cash, general ledger, payroll accounts, and supporting journal entries; responsible for monthly and year-end financial closings

2. Prepare and manage UtahPresents budgets in close collaboration with the Executive Director and staff leadership

  • Lead development of the annual operating budget and support creation of departmental and event budgets to meet organizational goals

  • Manage UtahPresents budgets including the preparation of monthly budget summaries to keep the Executive Director and relevant staff apprised of expenditure and revenue status

  • Review and analyze budgets to guide organizational decision making

3. Manage communication between UtahPresents and the University of Utah’s Financial and Business Services area, the College of Fine Arts, and external entities

  • Serve as point person for the College of Fine Arts’ Financial & Operations Officer

  • Represent UtahPresents at University meetings for financial and administrative officers

  • Review changes in University policy, federal regulations, and contractual requirements, and coordinate implementation procedures

  • Oversee the annual audit including the collection of required materials and information

  • Provide financial information for grant applications and reports

4. Handle administrative matters regarding day-to-day operations and procedures

  • Administer payroll

  • Assist with financial settlements for Kingsbury Hall rentals

  • Coordinate purchasing activities, including Purchase Orders, Payment Requests, Campus Orders, University Purchasing Cards, and RFPs for significant purchases

  • Manage contracts of various service providers

5. Serve as staff liaison to the UtahPresents Advisory Board’s Finance Committee

  • Work with Finance Committee Chair to schedule and plan semi-monthly meetings

  • Engage committee members in strategic efforts to strengthen UtahPresents fiscal health

  • Prepare financial reports for the committee and full Advisory Board

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus one year related experience or equivalency (two years of related work experience can be substituted for one year of education) required. A thorough understanding of general ledger accounting practices, cost analysis and accounting principles, as well as demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft or Access databases may be preferred in some areas.
