Director Office of Energy Development The Department of Natural Resources is actively seeking a visionary and results-driven leader to assume the role of Director of the Office of Energy Development. This executive-level position demands exceptional discretion and strategic attention in steering Utah s statewide energy policies and plan. The selected candidate will report directly to the executive director of the Utah Department of Natural Resources on critical energy matters within the state. Role Overview and Key Responsibilities: * As director of the Office of Energy Development,you will be at the forefront of implementing the state's energy policy and advancing Utah s key energy objectives. In close collaboration with state agencies,legislative and executive branches of government,the Director will lead the strategic planning,promotion,and regulation of energy development initiatives across the state. This pivotal role involves seeking federal grants or loans,participating in federal programs,and administering federally funded state energy programs in line with applicable federal guidelines. The director will exercise considerable discretion and judgment in providing recommendations on energy-related issues and will represent the state at various board and commission meetings,offering insights and guidance while staying abreast of emerging energy issues.    **Principal Duties: 

  • Oversee,develop,implement,and evaluate statewide energy programs,aligning them with the state's energy policy and core objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Governor s office,legislature,and local elected officials to provide strategic counsel and recommendations on energy-related matters and policies. 
  • Seek federal funding opportunities and participate in federal energy programs,adhering to relevant program guidelines. 
  • Attend meetings of diverse boards and commissions to offer input and guidance from the perspective of the office and stay informed on energy-related issues. 
  • Develop and execute the state s energy plan. Establish objectives,prioritize tasks,allocate resources,and make operational decisions for the office. 
  • Direct and oversee office personnel,including recruitment,workload management,training,performance assessment,and disciplinary procedures.

*Ideal Candidate: *

  • Demonstrate expertise in developing and executing strategy energy development plans and initiatives and shaping policy guidance within the energy industry. 
  • Experience working with elected state leaders on energy development issues,and a thorough understanding of state and federal energy policies and budget administration. 
  • Diverse background and understanding of energy development that includes both traditional and clean resources. This would include traditional sources,like oil,natural gas and coal,and clean sources,including geothermal,nuclear power,wind,solar,etc.
  • Proven track record in directing energy programs and administering federally funded initiatives. 
  • Experience directing office operations and personnel management issues,including performance evaluations and human resources management. 
  • Exceptional communication and public relations skills,enabling effective engagement with diverse stakeholders,including governmental bodies,corporate partners,and community stakeholders. 
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance and recommendations related to energy and exhibit sound judgment and discretion.
