SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Director for Event Strategy and Management in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director for Event Strategy and Management leads the centralized events office at Salt Lake Community College. This position is responsible for the design and execution of a comprehensive event strategy that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the College related to internally and externally facing stakeholders.

The Director plans, budgets, coordinates, executes, tracks, measures and evaluates the success of each event. They lead a small team of staff, coordinate event volunteers, and work across the college with colleagues from different divisions and departments, with students, and with senior leadership to direct event strategy and logistics. Assess and evaluate existing event strategies and plans to identify opportunities for event improvement and reach.

Events include but are not limited to: Back to School Convocation, Commencement Ceremony and celebrations, college and community lectures and special activities, other recognition events for college stakeholders, and college planning forums.

The Director also has oversight responsibilities for the South City Campus Art Gallery including managing staff who curates student, staff and community exhibitions and events, as well as SLCC's permanent art collection. The Director is a member of the SLCC Art Committee which provides oversight for cataloging and managing the College's permanent art collection.

Director also ensures event office is a resource to college staff, faculty and administrators who plan divisional, departmental, and programmatic events.

This position is the key point of contact and critical partner on planning, developing and implementing college-wide special events and programs. Determines event goals and objectives in consultation with departments and key stakeholders. Identifies and conducts needs analysis to ensure relevance and value. Manages and negotiates all vendor relationships and contracts, integrates efforts with facilities, campus reservations, and creates college-wide resources for event hosting.

Collaborates with Institutional Advancement (development, marketing, and communications) on developing marketing and communication strategies for special events and programs. Provides content and messaging to ensure event marketing materials (website, emails, communications, invitations, mailings, etc.) support the mission of each event and the college brand.

College-Wide Events:

- - Develop event strategy (in collaboration with VP and college leadership) and annual calendar of events. - Coordinate event logistics including contracts and process for venues, caterers, speakers bureaus, technical equipment, decorations and marketing materials. - Maintain communication with supporting departments including marketing, facilities, food services, procurement, and security. - Set priorities, solve problems and be resourceful under pressure. Event forecasting, planning, budgeting, and organizing teams. - Supervise event staff, volunteers, and planning and implementation committees. - Manage and negotiate all vendor relationships and contracts.

 

Gallery Oversite:

  • Lead staff in gallery and art committee responsibilities including scheduling, budgeting, communication wi th artists and inter-departmental coordination to curate, hang/takedown, plan opening receptions and troubleshoot gallery events.
  • Serve as SLCC Art Committee advisory member and liaison for the South City campus art gallery exhibitions and events.

Represent department at internal and external meeting/functions. Other duties as assigned.
