Job Title: Driver/Operator Department: Transportation Reports To: Operations Manager Summary: Drive bus, van or transport vehicle to transport passengers over a specified route on a time schedule in a courteous, confidential, and safe manner. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following requirements: Operate and safely drive a bus (up to 30 feet long) in either good or adverse weather conditions while transporting passengers. Communicate bus rules/safety and behavior requirements to passengers, address improper behavior immediately while using appropriate interpersonal communication skills. Assist passengers boarding bus when necessary. Inspect buses daily to identify and report deficiencies. Perform vehicle maintenance procedures such as fluid/fuel levels, tire pressure checks, wash and clean bus internally and externally, install tire chains, and perform other normal daily maintenance as required. Regulate heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort. Responsible for knowing rules and regulations (Federal, State and City) laws concerning operation of a bus and comply with local traffic regulations. Complete all records/reports timely and accurately such as pre-trip, post trip, mileage, times, passenger names and submit to operations manager. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); with a minimum of 1 year of work experience, preferably as a bus driver. Valid Idaho driver\'s license with a clean driving record. Be able to pass driver safety course, CPR/First Aid certification, drug and alcohol test, and background check. Must be 18 years or older due to FTA regulation. Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one to passengers, parents and other employees of the organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: 1. Required to sit for long periods of time. 2. Required to stand, walk, occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Reach with hands and arms. 3. Specific vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work environment: Can be exposed regularly to outside weather conditions, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, noise levels can be higher than normal. Interpersonal skills: Focusing on solving conflict, not blaming. Listen to others without interrupting. Keep emotions under control. Remain open-minded to other\'s ideas and be willing to try new things. Ability to speak clearly and informatively and respond well to questions. Write clearly and is able to follow written instructions. Follow policy and procedures. Complete administrative tasks correctly and on time. Exhibit sound and accurate judgment and be able to explain decisions. Act in a tactful, professional manner, treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position. Observe safety and security procedures; report unsafe conditions, use equipment and materials properly. Consistently at work ON TIME, ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent, arrive at meetings on time. Follow instructions, respond to man gement direction. Take responsibility for your own actions.
