Tool and Die Apprentice

Business Unit: Medeco Security Locks

Location: Salem, VA (on-site)

Reports To: Tool Room Manager

Position Summary:

This position will complete a multi-stage 2 year Apprenticeship to develop the necessary tooling skills to achieve optimal levels of quality, productivity, safety.

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely with Tool grinding Technicians in maintaining cutting tools, broaches, etc.

  • Work closely with Tool and Die Makers on the design & fabrication of new products, tooling, gauges, fixtures & machines to support Operations.

  • Assist in troubleshooting of production problems relating to Equipment, Process, Tool Geometry, Fixturing, Machine and Tool Alignments, Set-Up Problems, etc.

  • Learn to complete functional tools, gauges, fixtures, dies from detailed blueprints.

  • Key Machine assembly and production of components.

  • Learn Wire EDM processes.

  • Perform responsibilities in accordance with all company standards, policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Formal training in Machine Technology or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.

  • 1-3 years CNC or Manual Machining experience.

  • Demonstrated achievements in a production Machining environment.

  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and implement projects in a timely manner.

  • Basic operational knowledge of Saw, Lathe, Bridgeport, and Mill.
