Scope of Position:
The function of the Human Resources Assistant will assist the Human Resources Coordinator with the processing of personnel related documents, benefits, and programs with employees for all of the operations in Marion/Polk counties, including Administration offices, Kroc Center, Emergency Shelter and Family Services. This position provides general office support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Professional: The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Able to work with limited supervision, and work in a team setting with other professionals. Exercise good judgment and comfortable taking initiative with projects.
Skills & Abilities:
Proficient with current Microsoft software computer programs including Word, Excel, e-mail, internet, and standard office equipment and systems. The ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule, to address multiple projects in a timely manner, and to take projects from beginning through completion. The ability to be responsive and detail oriented. Effective interpersonal and written communications. The ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Equipment: Telephone, computer, copy/fax machines, 10-key calculator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist Human Resources Coordinator with preparing the paperwork for the hiring of employees.
Use Doc-U-Sign to hire new employees
Assist Human Resources Coordinator with all communications (verbal and written) this includes but is not limited to telephone, email, all types of mailings, and preparing various types of correspondences, forms, and reports as needed.
Assist department supervisors in developing job descriptions when requested.
Prepare recruitment announcements internal/external postings.
Assist in maintaining the timecards of each employee.
Assist payroll (DHQ) in making sure all timesheets are correct before sending them up.
Assist in maintaining the personnel record keeping process to ensure access to and completeness of information regarding employees. Review employee vacation and floating holiday requests for employees.
Be knowledgeable of employee insurance benefit programs, including medical, dental, short-term disability, and worker’s compensation insurances.
Report and maintain information on workers compensation claims.
All other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminishing performance.
Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel, push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds unassisted, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, talk, hear, have-eye hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak, and read, and working in noisy areas, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position.
Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer screen.
Working Conditions:
Works on many projects at once in an open office environment with many interruptions and noise from ringing telephones, printer/copier, and walk-in-traffic. Frequent interruptions, multiple deadlines, and competing priorities. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated.
Organizes projects, sets priorities, calculates, catalogues, inspects, analyzes, plans, comprehends, and cooperates with others, etc.

Education and Work Experience:
Education – Minimum of High School degree or GED equivalency. Associate Degree preferred.
Work/Professional Experience – Five or more years of business office experience. or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2 years in human resources preferred.
