Ulteig Engineers Engineering Supervisor - Subconsultants in Saint Paul, Minnesota
Description The Opportunity Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Engineering Supervisor (ES) position within the Substation department. This role will focus on leading Ulteig's growing dependency on external subconsultant partners, while supporting a Key Client program. This individual will report directly to a Substation Associate Director, interacting closely with other corporate business units such as sales, procurement, marketing, account management and project management. The Engineering Supervisor is a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, and resource management. This position will be a leadership role, with the title of manager or supervisor determined by the candidate's experience. What You'll Do Subconsultant Management Responsibilities - 50% Provides strategic direction, leadership, and technical services oversight for subconsultant teams and ensures alignment with organizational performance goals. Acts as the primary lead for all Substation subconsultants with support from others in the organization. Coach, train, and develop subconsultant technical staff including technical onboarding for new subconsultants. Facilitate bi-weekly meetings with each subconsultant team that is actively supporting projects to monitor performance and ensure active collaboration at all levels. Day to day management oversight of all subconsultant execution, including review when necessary, of subconsultant project drawings, calculations, & specifications for adherence to client specifications and to evaluate performance. Development of processes and best practices for subconsultant work in collaboration with the procurement team and broader organization. Develop and maintain metrics for subconsultants performance (quality, schedule adherence, financial, safety, and responsiveness) Maintain resource capacity information for all Substation subconsultants to provide the leadership team with a clear understanding of capacity on a rolling basis. Includes integration of subconsultant resource capacity information into department-wide capacity planning tool. Evaluate and provide recommendations to the organization on additional subconsultant partnerships or need for additional internal subconsultant management team members to increase capacity. Internal Program Leadership - 35% Work in close collaboration with Quality and Standards Engineer on establishing internal processes, procedures, training programs, and quality improvement initiatives. Key Client resourcing lead and will act as an additional conduit between client team and leadership to ensure proper assignment of work to capable and available teams. Champion for continued process improvements to include but not limited to: Collaboration between PTLs, PMs, and PCs. Includes assisting with development of clear roles and responsibilities, implementation of PPM, and assisting with the integration of PMO into PTS Evaluate and assist with implementation of internal project schedules Maintain, via collaboration with estimate review team, the existing engineering fee estimate tool and benchmark data to ensure Ulteig is proposing consistent and competitive fees on projects Assist with resource planning to provide visibility into long term resource capacity reporting to department and client leadership. Relationship Management/Business Development - 10% Participates and partners with members of the Sales team and technical staff throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients Participates and partners with Procurement and Sales team to identify and qualify new subconsultant partners Support proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team, Project Management, and other departments Maintains positive client relationships with existing clients Collaboration with Key client stakeholders (external) to ather feedback, learn about upcoming opportunities, and assist with capturing process changes to ensure execution success Collaboration with Key Client program leadership (internal) to share feedback, trends, watch points, etc. based on discussions with key client stakeholders Enterprise & Department Management & Initiatives - 5% Support development and maintain Enterprise-wide subconsultant procurement policies, procedures, and best practices. Collaboration with Procurement and Subconsultant leaders across Ulteig to promote consistency and best utilize existing partners in other areas of our business. Participate in cross functional team(s) on strategic initiatives for the company and/or department. What We Expect from You Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required from ABET accredited university or equivalent 6+ years of experience in the Power Engineering field Professional Engineer (PE) registration highly preferred Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude Ability to travel on an as needed basis for job responsibilities Strong analytic, business financial, and information management skills Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities with clear expectations and timeliness Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty Must have permanent authorization to work in the US.
