NewGround Senior Project Architect in Saint Louis, Missouri

The Senior Project Architect will lead the project team in the development and delivery of successful projects. Working with the Director of Design Operations and studio team, the Senior Project Architect will be a critical part of the development of projects, taking them from concept to reality. Persistence for solving problems, mentoring jr. staff, listening to feedback from all team members, and having an ability to prioritize and pivot quickly from task to task are essential for success. This person will provide exemplary communication with ownership, stakeholders, NewGround internal directors, and external consultants. In addition, this individual will guide the team in the creation of technical drawings and details that reinforce the quality and design goals on the project. The Senior Project Architect will successfully navigate the project budget, program, design intent, context, jurisdiction requirements, and timelines to provide an exemplary product.

This position is a hybrid position. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the St. Louis office.

GENERAL SKILLS

  • · Ability to document architectural building systems including, but not limited to, exterior wall systems, roofing systems, and storefront systems

  • · Oversee and coordinate project team members on delegated tasks as required

  • Understanding and knowledge of building codes, accessibility codes and zoning regulations

  • Understanding and knowledge of building systems and site requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in all phases of project development

  • Experience with the independent production of construction documents for commercial projects

SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications (MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Sketchup

  • Experience with Procore or comparable software

  • Experience with Speclink or comparable software

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of architects during all phases of projects

  • Apply technical knowledge to aid in the development of the project design

  • Coordinate with Project Executives, Marketing and Business Development on project delivery

  • Lead client communications through presentations, meetings, and email

  • Coordinate with local jurisdictions on project development

  • Assist in preparation of Contract Change Orders as required

  • Assist in the review of shop drawings

  • Make site visits as required

  • Coordinate external project engineering consultants

  • Assist in the preparation and development of specifications

  • Be knowledgeable on application of building regulations to projects

  • Function as detailer, lead the team in development of details and technical drawings

  • Deliver projects on schedule and within budget

  • Provide mentorship and guidance for the team

  • Perform all other related work, as assigned or as apparent

EXPECTATIONS

  • Travel as required

  • Supports the Director of Design Operations in the coordination of multiple projects simultaneously

  • A passion for design and problem solving

  • Mentoring a junior staff

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITES

  • Architectural License preferred, ideally multiple states

  • NCARB certification preferred

  • 10+ years of professional experience in commercial architecture required

  • LEED AP credential preferred

  • Experience leading a project team required
