Position Details

Position Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) is responsible for providing personal medical care and assistance with daily living activities that improve quality of life for Students in a School Setting while adhering to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries at all times.

Supervision: Supervision of the Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) is managed by School personnel.

Job Duties:

The SPED Instructional Care Aidassists and supports the teacher(s) in implementing an instructional and care program to promote each student’s academic advancement and personal development. Essential Functions: 1. Escorts, assists and/or supervises student(s) during play periods, movement throughout the building, to and from buses, toileting routines, lunch, smacks, specialized and inclusive classes, community activities and other times as designated. 2. Assists teacher(s) in implementing behavior management plans which may include observing, recording, charting behavior and implementing a reinforcement schedule, as well as utilization of approved restraint methods when required and under teacher directive. 3. Assists teacher in test administration, under teacher directive. 4. Communicate any problems or concerns regarding students to the supervising teacher. 5. Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce skills previously introduced by the teacher. 6. Guides individual students or small groups to reinforce skills previously introduced by the teacher. 7. Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling. 8. Assists the teacher in maintaining and organizing work and study areas, equipment, materials and facilities. 9. Score objective tests and papers with guidance and input from the teacher and assists with the maintenance of appropriate student records. 10. Performs health-related procedures such as: feeding, lifting, positioning, carrying, toileting, tube feeding, cleaning catheterization and suctioning equipment. 11. Participate in workshops, in-service training and parent conferences. 12. Attends specialized training as required to assist in the implementation of student’s IEP. 13. Serves as a resource of information and assists substitute teacher. 14. Reports parental concerns to supervisory teacher. 15. Performs other duties related to Special Education, as assigned by teacher or administrator. Experience: Required: • Some experience working with children. • Computer Skills Preferred: • Experience working with teachers and students in an educational setting • Some experience tutoring young children Education: • A high school diploma or GED • A minimum of 60 hours of college credit. Physical Requirements: • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body • Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significate degree

Job Requirements:

Current, unrestricted certification or proof of training as required by the state

Current CPR certification

High school Diploma or equivalent

Current Continuing Education if required by state

Good organizational and communication skills

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English

Prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting

Must be able to travel to location with reliable transportation

Must be able to sit and climb stairs

Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 IBS
