CITY OF ST JOSEPH Systems Administrator in SAINT JOSEPH, Missouri
Job Summary/Scope Responsible for managing and maintaining computer systems, networks, and servers within the City of St Joseph. Ensures the smooth operation, security, and efficiency of the IT infrastructure. Assists in the implementation of and/or installing and configuring hardware and software, troubleshooting technical issues, monitoring system performance, managing user accounts and access rights, implementing security measures, and performing regular backups. Provides technical training to City employees as needed. No supervisory responsibilities. No budgetary responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, network devices, and software applications.
- Provides technical support to end users, resolve hardware and software issues, and assist with upgrades and migrations.
- Performs hardware and software upgrades to maintain an efficient and standardized desktop computing environment.
- Assists with network performance monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and updating of the Citys network switches and routers.
- Performs regular backups and implement disaster recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability of all network stored data.
- Assists Public Safety Network Administrator with implementation, ongoing maintenance, and system upgrades of the public safety software and systems.
- Assists in troubleshooting, maintaining, and updating servers throughout the Citys network, including servers in the Communications Center at the LEC.
- Assists in installation, configuration, and maintaining of police car fleets laptops.
- May assist with public safety upgrades to the telephone/911 system and radio computers.
- Collaborate with other members of the IT team to develop and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with vendors and other members of IT team to plan and implement system upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
- Continues education to maintain an expertise level to provide acceptable computer systems performance and reliability.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends and make recommendations for system enhancements and improvements

Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Work is performed in an office setting with a controlled environment however can occasionally be in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Job can require long hours working at a computer terminal, or in tight quarters during installation of equipment. Occasionally lifts 10 to 20 pounds, with the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision
requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; Must be able to climb ladders.
