ST CHARLES COUNTY GOVERNMENT CORRECTIONAL PEACE OFFICER in Saint Charles, Missouri

POSITION AND TESTING PROCESS ANNOUNCEMENT - CORRECTIONAL PEACE OFFICER - ST. CHARLES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS This is a full-time, 168 hours/28-day cycle position that includes a full range of benefits including Paid Time Off, Extended Medical Leave, Holidays, Employee Health, Dental, Life, Disability, Retirement, and Tuition Assistance Programs. St. Charles County Department of Corrections will be conducting testing for Correctional Peace Officer openings. The testing process consists of a video exam, counting exam, reading exam, and writing exam. Candidates must pass all components of the examination process to be considered for an interview. Candidates must also pass a criminal background investigation and a PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) check suitable for law enforcement, including a criminal record and drivers license check. Candidates are required to have a police record free of pending charges and felony convictions. Prior to final selection, candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug screening and psychological assessment. TEST PROCESS OVERVIEW Video Exam Consists of 80 multiple choice questions based on Correctional Officer scenarios. Counting Exam Consists of two parts with a total of 30 questions. Reading Exam - Tests the ability to use appropriate word selections throughout sentences. Written Exam Tests the ability to complete a report consisting of the following: the facts of an incident, proper punctuation, and correct spelling. Candidates must pass all components of the process to be considered for an interview. Candidates who do not pass, may go through the testing process again after 6 months. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Upon completion and submission of the Correctional Peace Officer application, applicants will be notified by the St. Charles County Department of Corrections to schedule testing. Testing will be held in the St. Charles County Department of Corrections located at 301 N. Second Street, St. Charles, MO 63301. The testing process will take approximately 3 hours. - When arriving, please allow extra time for parking and check in. A valid driver license or I.D. must be presented at the time of testing JOB DESCRIPTION Responsible for the prevention and detection of crime and the enforcement of general criminal laws of the State and violation of ordinances of the County within the parameters of State statutes, County Ordinances and Executive Order. Performs armed and unarmed transports of prisoners to and from the facility, to other institutions for appointments or commitments. Performs armed and unarmed security watches outside of the facility. Serves arrest warrants within the confines of the Criminal Justice Facility. Conducts initial investigation of any crimes/ serious incidents occurring within the confines of department operations, programs, or facilities. Secures scene of any such incident, protects evidence, identifies witnesses, and prepares investigation report. May be on-call for emergency operations or necessary peace officer functions. Performs normal duties of a Correctional Officer; including intake of arrested persons and release of inmates, internal transports of inmates, oversees and supervises inmate activities and movements in housing units, and regulates movement of inmates, employees, and visitors within the facility and performs security checks of housing units and work release. Must be available for any shift or day assigned and mandatory overtime as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
