City of Saginaw Tree Trimmer II in Saginaw, Michigan
This is skilled work as a lead worker performed under general supervision involving the planting, maintenance, and removal of trees and shrubs. Assists with other duties seasonally including road salting, snow plowing, brush removal, compost operations, recycle/yard waste, pothole and stree repairs and concrete repair.
MAJOR DUTIES:
* *1. Climbs trees or works from an aerial lift to trim dead , broken, misshapen or undesired branches.
2. Removes dead, diseased or dangerous trees.
3. Operates trucks, saws, brush chipper, stump remover, hi-ranger, and other mechanical equipment necassary in the performance of duties.
4. Plants trees and shrubbery and maintains newly planted trees and shrubbery.
5. Spray trees and shrubs in efforts to prevent disease or insect infestation.
6. Repairs and maintains handsaws, chain saws, and other tools.
7. Cousels the public in efforts to prevent and combat tree diseases.
8. Acts as lead worker in tree trimming responsibilities.
9. Assists with plowingand saltingof roads in times of heacy snowfall.
Sets up proper and effective safety controls such as cones, barricades, etc. around work areas in efforts to protect pedestirans, motorists and workers on job sites.
Assists with identification of equipment needed for each assigned job: ensuring equipment is cleand and safe. Includes a second walk around of all equip,ment for an assigned crew.
Is vigilant for potentially unsafe conditions and practices: identifies such and communicates recommended corrective action to crew and supervisor.
Performs other duties as requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* *1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Must have and maintain a valid State of Michigan CDL B with proper endorsements.
3. Minimum 4 years' experience in tree trimming and tree removal in an urban environment.
4. Ability to operate saws, chippers, trucks with aerial lift booms, and related mechanical equipment.
5. Minimum 2 years' experience as a Laborer, Equipment Operator, or equivalent work experience.
6. Minimum 4 years' experience working at various heights of 30 feet or more from and aerial lift.
7. Willingness to work out of doors in all types of weather.
8. Knowledge of effective safety controls to protect pedestrians, motorists and workers on the job site.
9. Ability to deal effectively with the public regarding information of a technical nature related to trees.
Demonstrates good interpersonal skills for effective communication with the public and work crew members.
Self-motivated with ability to work with limited instruction.
