Job Summary
The Security / Corrections Officer works under the supervision of a jail Sergeant, ensuring the safety and security of incarcerated inmates at the Saginaw County Jail. Responsibilities include:
- Supervising inmates during exercise and visitation periods.
- Conducting searches, rounds, feeding, clothing changes, mail delivery, and inmate movement.
- Monitoring inmate activities to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Completing logs and reports on inmate activities and any unusual occurrences.
- Overseeing trustee functions, including laundry and supply distribution.
- Ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the jail.
Key duties include:
- Performing regular rounds to ensure prisoner safety and compliance.
- Moving inmates to appropriate cell locations.
- Monitoring and supervising inmates during exercise and visitation.
- Conducting searches for contraband and reporting findings.
- Assisting with meal distribution, clothing changes, mail delivery, and medical transfers.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must complete and pass the 160-hour Local Corrections Officer Training Academy within one year of hire.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to use tact and diplomacy when interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Must successfully pass an employment screening process, including oral evaluations, psychological and physical assessments, drug screening, and a comprehensive background investigation.
