JOB TITLE: Academic Interventionist

DEPARTMENT/BUILDING:

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Saginaw Public Schools Academic Interventionists are responsible for assisting with the delivery of instructional services for eligible students in the remedial Title I program. Responsibilities include instruction of students, student discipline, planning, preparation of materials, testing and record keeping.

  1. Knowledge of effective methods and techniques for working with children
  2. Knowledge of stages of child development and learning styles
  3. Knowledge of pertinent software applications
  4. Skilled in operating standard office equipment
  5. Skilled in preparing and maintain accurate records
  6. Ability to schedule activities and/or meetings
  7. Ability to gather and/or collate data
  8. Ability to solve problems by identifying issues and creating action plans
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality

  12. Ability to work in a multi-cultural, urban setting and develop a rapport with students, staff, parents and the school community

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adapt lessons to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives

Administer tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. to support teachers in the instructional process

Assist students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments to practice and/or reinforce learning concepts and assist students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards

Confer with teachers and/or parents by providing input into the evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing/modifying students' objectives

Implement, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans to assist the teacher in improving students' academic success through a defined course of study

Maintain classroom equipment, work area, students' files/records to identify required assistance and ensure a safe and positive learning environment
