The Cook performs all required aspects of meal and production for the child care program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Completes the Easterseals Blake Foundation new employee requirements for employment, including orientation and training requirements, reporting suspected child abuse and health requirements as specified by the Office of Child Care Licensure.
- Completes trainings required by the Child and Adult Food Program (CACFP) and by the Department of Health Services sanitary and practices in food preparation
- Prepares cyclical menus under the guidance of the Assistant Director or Center Director and with the impute of staff and families
- Completes all paperwork required by the CACFP, including shopping list and groceries orders, production records, meal counts and menus (including substitutions)
- Prepares nutritious meals to include breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack
- Facilitates the practice of family style meals service in the classrooms which includes providing the appropriate serving tool and substitutions (if applicable) to the teaching team
- Ensures the safe and sanitary storage, preparation and serving meals
- Ensures the kitchen and storage areas are maintained according to sanitation rules
- Completes daily cleaning practices which include sanitation of dishes and meal preparation items
- Orders and maintains equipment for the kitchen and for meal services
- Collaborates with the Director, Assistant Director, colleagues, and community organizations in best meeting the needs of the program
- Attends planning, informal quality assurance meetings once a year
- Maintain strict confidentiality concerning children and families
- Mentors and provides instructions for the kitchen helper
- Follows schedule assignment to meet programs needs
