American Institutes for Research Director, Program Finance Operations in Sacramento, California

Overview

AIR is seeking an experienced Director of Program Finance Operations to join our dynamic team. This position will be responsible for leading initiatives to support the continued development of a high-performance finance team. The Director will be accountable for increasing staff awareness and competency in improving program finance operations and service delivery. This role will provide strong management guidance and direction across finance process improvement opportunities and change management practices.

This position is hybrid, based out any of AIR'sU.S. office locations (https://www.air.org/locations#alloffices) .

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Lead the development and mentorship of Program Finance staff to enhance understanding and capabilities, setting a higher standard for internal and external client service delivery.

  • Work collaboratively with Program Finance and other AIR team leaders to ensure the delivery of business process improvement initiatives and synergies.

  • Lead efforts to identify, design, and implement process improvements, utilizing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other measurable criteria to ensure adherence to defined standards and operational excellence.

  • Drive continuous process improvement, foster a culture of change, and ensure quality service delivery across Program Finance. Ensure timely implementation by directing and guiding others, and applying various operational excellence tools to resolve problems, including providing training where required.

  • Lead the development and refresh of program finance policies, procedures, and process documentation.

  • Stay current on innovative process improvement practices by leveraging peer networks and other resources as appropriate.

  • Build effective relationships, influence, and motivate team members to ensure their commitment to achieving program finance excellence.

  • Perform diagnostics on business processes, tools, and technology to define and identify opportunities/problems and propose meaningful, realistic solutions.

  • Design and lead coaching workshops for managers and employees on process improvement practices and approaches.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field with at least 15 years of work experience

  • Strong understanding of non-profit sector and experience in federal, state/local, foundations, commercial, state/local, international funding mechanisms, and regulations

  • Broad experience across financial management and reporting spectrum

  • Demonstrated success in mentoring and developing elite finance/accounting professionals

  • Proven experience with FAR, CAS, GAAP, and other federal and non-federal international regulations and guidelines

Skills:

  • Expert proficiency in Deltek Costpoint 8

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate to diverse stakeholders

  • Commitment to continuous process improvement with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing best practices in financial operations

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and other data analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)

Disclosures:

AIR’s Total Rewards Program , is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $162,000 - $182,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
