Job Description

As the Drives Upgrades Engineer, your role will be to carry out modernization work on electrical drives. You will venture to client sites as a member of a cross-functional team carrying out upgrades and maintenance. Typical scope includes Medium Voltage & Low Voltage drives, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and control as well as the associated power systems engineering.

In this role you will focus on:

  • Designing, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and remotely diagnosing variable frequency drives and associated power equipment.

  • Performing troubleshooting activities at site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolutions, and implement corrective actions.

  • Utilizing internal software for write PLC/drive code using industry standard function block.

  • Marking up and reviewing AutoCAD and EPLAN drawings.

  • Setting up hardware in a lab environment and demonstrating Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) to both internal & external customers.

  • Communicating progress of projects to Engineering management team.

  • This role combines office work with domestic and international travel (5-10% of work time spent travelling).

We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:

  • A relevant degree (minimum HNC, HND,BEng or BSc) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications, or some experience in an industrial electrical engineering environment.

  • Basic knowledge of PLC programming principles.

  • An understanding of power conversion principles for DC drives, LV PWM drives, MV PWM drives.

  • An aptitude for learning and develop in their role in an ever evolving branch of technology (growth mindset).

What will make you stand out:

  • Solid experience in heavy industry environment.

  • Knowledge of integrated control schemes with switchgear, protection, PLCs, HMI and Drives.

  • Experience of commissioning electrical drive systems.

  • Power systems experience with relation to transformers and switchgear.
