Job Description

In this role, you will be primarily involved in preparing, performing, testing and commissioning marine automation related activities in support of new build, upgrade and service related projects. As part of your job, you will verify that system commissioned matches functional design specification and implement necessary corrections to ensure specification details are met.

In this role you will focus on:

  • Engineering activities - preparing, planning, testing and commissioning high and low voltage drive system upgrades. You will perform routine maintenance tasks and training across all GE Marine UK customer base automation systems, both onshore and offshore.

  • Analysing, diagnosing and repairing automation related software and hardware defects across all automation systems installed across the GE Marine UK customer base.

  • Writing, updating and maintaining documentation in line with company procedures and best practice.

  • Providing technical support to both the customer and internal GE staff as required.

  • Liaising with the engineering department, Fleet Managers and other GE personnel as required to fulfil the role of Lead Automation Engineer.

  • Comply with both company and customer EHS policies, procedures and safe systems of work.

  • Maintaining personal competence by completing all applicable training in line with company requirements.

  • Contributing to and leading an FSE team for various engineering activities as directed by Resource Managers.

  • Carrying out marine service administrative tasks as directed by the marine service manager.

We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:

  • Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from a reputable College or University; alternatively, you'll have experience working on on large automation systems.

  • Experience working with PC/PLC equipment.

  • Experience and knowledge of PLC programming – ladder diagram and function blocks.

  • Experience of work on larger Automation Systems with HMI PCs.

  • Understanding of networks/network equipment and communication protocols like Modbus.

  • Established record of site work.

  • Good communication skills, written and verbal in English.

  • Health and Safety training.

  • Must be able to achieve Security Cleared clearance level from UK Security Vetting.

  • Willingness to work world-wide and offshore.

  • Ability to travel overseas on short notice.

  • Valid Offshore survival training certificate

  • Valid passport to safety training certificate, IOSH managing safely or NEBOSH general certificate.

  • Familiarity with IEC and marine classification society rules.

  • Full Clean Driving license.

  • Flexible attitude to working pattern is required.

  • Able to work fairly independently.
