Large utility is looking for a Corrosion Technician in Royal Oak, MI. This job involves verifying GIS casings for corrosion compliance and entering them into the Corrosion Database within 12 weeks. This is a contract position estimated to last 19 months, possible extension, possible temp to perm. Apply Now!

responsibilities:

• Audit and field-verify all casings in GIS to ensure they are included in the Corrosion Database for monitoring compliance.

• There are over 3,000 casings in GIS, but only 350 are currently in the Corrosion Database.

• Each casing takes approximately 8 minutes to evaluate.

• The remaining casings to be completed total 3,000, equivalent to around 400 hours of work.

• For each casing, verify that the carrier pipe is steel and ensure the pipe has not been replaced with plastic.

• If the pipe has been replaced with plastic, no further monitoring is required.

• Check for the presence of a test point or vent on the casing, which can be viewed using Google Earth.

• Ensure a test point is located within 100 feet of the casing to determine if the casing is shorted to the carrier pipe.

• Verified casings need to be entered into the Corrosion Database.

• Field readings must be taken for compliance with code-required monitoring.

• A contract resource is requested for a 12-week period to complete this analysis, with oversight and support provided to close out the casing CAPA.

Skills:

• English proficiency is required in reading, writing, and speaking.

• A CAPA certification or license is necessary for this role.
