Summary You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the FDRMC Commander of FWD DEPLOYED REG MAINT CTR DET ROTA, Spain. Responsibilities You will provide technical assistance for urgent mission-degrading Casualty Reports (CASREP) or similar problems affecting assigned equipment. You will provide technical assistance on less urgent but complex technical problems beyond the capability of forces afloat or repair activities to diagnose and correct. You will perform functional checkout, grooming, adjustment, and test of repaired, new or modernized shipboard systems in a systems qualifications test environment. You will participate in ordnance alterations (ORDALTs), ship alterations, and field changes (FCs) which include actual hands-on modification of components. You will perform special engineering analyzes/studies in support of In-Service Engineering Agents (ISEA) for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance procedures, material, etc. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Utilizing electrical and engineering disciplines in order to solve problems affecting shipboard satellite communications systems; 2) Developing improvement methods in increase the reliability of satellite communications systems; 3) Conducting testing and evaluations of satellite communications systems and equipment to ensure specification requirements are met; and 4) Performing functional checkout, grooming, and adjustment and testing of new or modernized shipboard systems (i.e. (a) WSC-9 Navy Multi band Terminal (b) WSC-6 Satellite Communications System (c) WSC-1 Satellite Communications System (d) USC-69 Commercial Broadband Satellite Program (CBSP) (e) TV-DTS Satellite Television Receive System (f) Baseband Tactical Variant Switch (TVS) (g) Enhanced Bandwidth Modems (EBEM/ESEM). CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: The work regularly involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as: high electrical voltages; large rotating machinery elements; electromagnetic radiation from high powered transmitters; nuclear radiation in and around machinery spaces aboard nuclear powered ships; explosive, flammable or incendiary materials, turbines, condensers, etc.; and entering enclosed spaces below the ship's water line (sonar domes, tanks, etc.} The work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign naval ships at berths, at anchor or at buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones} utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Helicopter and aircraft (COD} flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be occasionally required. This position has been identified as one in which shift hours may be changed without three days advance notice and for periods of less than three weeks. Approximately 20% of the work is performed in an office setting. The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing and crawling in and around the equipment/system with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem. Standing for several hours at a time on hard steel decks also occurs regularly during ship visits. Occasionally rapid results are required to meet operational schedules. Work may demand rapid response under high pressure. This will require a moderate degree of creativity and innovation, since new methods of technically sound alternatives may be necessary.
