Job Overview:

Candidate will be responsible for managing HSE aspects of remediation, maintenance and construction-based operations. In this capacity, the candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and/or administering health, safety & environmental protection programs affecting occupational health, employee and public safety, fire protection and prevention, incident investigation and loss control, responsible environmental practices and equipment and property protection.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Will serve as a resource to Site, Project and Program Managers regarding matters pertaining to Health, Safety & Environmental compliance with applicable federal, state, local, client and APTIM rules and regulations.

  • Serve as a resource for executive management to develop, administer and oversee the implementation of a proactive Health, Safety & Environmental Management System designed to manage risks while protecting employees and client personnel from incidents and illnesses on maintenance and construction projects.

  • Develop programs and practices including hazard evaluations that will support all work activities performed on complex and high-risks projects.

  • Work with all personnel engaged in these projects including executives, project management, HSE peers, operational personnel, unionized craft personnel , clients and regulators.

  • Work and influence client and organizational leadership to set priorities, solidify relationships, while possessing the ability to ensure company and client compliance with APTIM Health, Safety & Environmental procedures, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.

  • Communicate, present Health and Safety performance to management as necessary, participates in site-wide meetings including strategic work planning and safety culture improvement. Take active role to motivate employees and support achievement of safety objectives are essential for this opportunity.

  • Facilitate APTIM training as part of new employee orientation program, training to include site-wide HSE training requirements for craft and supervision.

  • Basic Qualifications:

  • Work experience should include confined spaces, LOTO, work at heights (fall protection) and other HSE life safety programs to support maintenance and construction work practices.

  • Manage HSE resources based on work schedules and demands, this includes working with HR to complete the necessary requisition and participating in the interview process of candidates.

  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments; outdoor environments will include a variety of harsh weather conditions, including but not limited to extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, sleet and snow.

  • Previous experience conducting HSE training programs to all levels of personnel.

  • Experience working within the oil and gas/refinery environment would be a plus but not necessary.

Physical requirements:

  • This position requires constant (70-100%) Standing; Walking; Lifting 20-50lbs; Carrying 20-50lbs; Pushing; Pulling; Climbing; Balancing; Bending; Stooping; Kneeling; Crouching; Crawling; Reaching; Handling; Feeling; Hearing (listening) and Observing (vision).

  • This position is subject to onsite hazards including but not limited to: moving industrial equipment, hazardous energies (LOTO), confined spaces, climbing ladders, working at heights, working on uneven or unimproved surfaces and areas of high noise levels.

  • Candidate shall be able to be medically qualified (HAZWOPER physical) including respiratory clearance through evaluation of ability to wear a respirator.

Candidate must possess:

  • A valid driver's license with clean driving record.

  • Excellent communication skills are required, both written and verbal, including interpersonal and leadership abilities as well as moderate to advanced computer and presentation skills.

  • 5+ years of progressive HSE Supervisory or HSE Management experience

  • Professional certification in a Health, Safety and/or Environmental discipline (CSP or CHMM) preferred but not required.

  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills.

  • Background in developing and presenting HSE based training programs.
