In this job, you’ll perform analytics and calculations of settlement charges assessed by the CAISO over a portfolio of utility owned generation, power purchase agreements, and demand response resources. You’ll be part of an energetic team of analysts and advisors reporting directly to the Senior Manager of CAISO Settlements. This position is in the Energy Procurement and Management organization which is contributing to SCE’s goal to be recognized by our industry as a high-performance organization.

  • Reviews CAISO market information, solves complex problems and performs analyses of new business situations through coordination across Energy Procurement & Management teams.

  • Understands ISO markets and mechanisms as it relates to settlements and as correlated to SCE’s power contracts.

  • Participates in market design discussions and forums to represent SCE’s customer and utility interests through engaged advocacy.

  • Helps shape and develop market policy by keeping abreast of market changes, influencing key stakeholders, and providing comments on market proposals.

  • Knowledgeable about resources available to integrate and present information regarding CAISO market changes as it relates to settlements.

  • Assists in bidding strategy development, coordination, implementation, and after the fact analysis for a complex portfolio of resources.

  • Analyzes market trends in the energy and ancillary services markets. Plans all aspects of analyses, presentations, and implementation strategies for a complete complex analysis, often of moderate or major significance and/or risk to the Company.

  • Understands system capabilities and communicates CAISO settlements business needs with IT and technology-oriented teams.

  • Establishes recommendations and conclusions based on analysis of complex issues.

  • Maintains a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices; and performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

The essentials

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in functions related to ISO settlements, systems analyses, electricity trading or marketing.

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience in building spreadsheet models.

The preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field of study.

  • Understanding of the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), PJM, NE-ISO, MISO, or NYISO market design.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare reports and present complex technical information to a wide audience, in non-technical language.

  • Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, initiative, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively multi-task and enthusiastically engage in continuous learning.

  • Experience with anticipating market design changes and how they impact business process.

  • Experience with synthesizing market design principals and communicating those principals to market operators.

  • Experience with managing software platforms with various projects and regular releases.

  • Experience with validating energy, capacity, and emissions settlements.

  • Experience analyzing complex financial, regulatory, and/or business problems.

  • Experience with financial and/or quantitative analyses.

  • Experience with PowerBI, SettleCore, or other visual analytical tools to be used for trending analyses.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days.  Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
