Job Description

Roseburg Studmill - Millwright

Reports to: Maintenance Director

Department: Maintenance

Hours per shift: Employee works 10-12 hours per day; two or three 10-minute rest breaks and one 30-minute unpaid meal period during the day.

Wage: Dependent on Qualifications (shift differential applies to swing and graveyard shifts).

Position Purpose: Maximize mill efficiency via preventive maintenance, repair/modification of machinery, and installation of new machinery. Works closely with Maintenance Director, lead millwright, electricians, production supervisors, machine operators, and cleanup.

Position Functions:

Essential Functions*

These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job .

Perform preventive maintenance on machinery. Complete PM’s as scheduled.

Repair/modify/align machinery – troubleshoot equipment problems. Repair/modify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and gravitational components of machinery. After repair is completed, check/operate repaired item for proper operation.

Order appropriate replacement parts and record any further work to be done on “Work List”.

Install new machinery.

Learn to operate machine centers. Assist with pre-shift warm-up of machinery.

Housekeeping – clean and organize shop and parts.

Operate forklift, manlift, hoist, crane, key cutters, drills, presses.

Weld and fabricate using arc and wire feed welders, cutting torch and track burners.

Read and follow blue prints and other specification SOP documents.

Work with a Safety First attitude using the ACES as a guideline for all decision making.

Special projects as assigned.

Work in confined spaces as required.

Non-Essential Functions

These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.

Other duties as assigned.

Working Environment : (1) Inside 60%, average temperature 70 degrees F (2) Outside 40%; extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees F. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Fumes: Wood, Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Wood particle, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: Minimal. Worker generally works alone with little supervision.

Personal Protective Equipment Required : (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Rubber or Leather based gloves as appropriate, (4) Approved Footwear. (5) Coveralls, (6) Hard hat where appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Welding and fabricating.

  • Repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems; machine alignment.

  • Read blue prints.

  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems in manufacturing.

  • Ability to identify different metal compositions, work with a variety of millwright tools, and use machine specific lockout procedures.

  • Ability to use fall protection equipment.

  • Must have excellent hand eye coordination.

  • Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.

    Communication: M ust be able to communicate effectively with Maintenance Director, lead millwright, electricians, production supervisors, machine operators, and cleanup via face to face meetings, radio, and telephone regarding troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, safety, etc. Must be able to write legibly. Vision/hearing/touch continuously; reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, monthly safety training topics, and Job Certification if applicable.

    Safety : (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14 step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics. (4) Use proper PPE. (5) Be aware of and communicate with your co-worker at all times. (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.

    Personal Expenses: Millwrights are required to provide their own set of tools. The company will provide a tool allowance.
