The Opportunity

As the Senior Vice President- US Government International (USGI) Client Engagement & Growth (CEG) you are focused on expanding and deepening our impact in Health, Resilient Economies, Climate and Energy within the Global Development Group. Reporting to the Chief Global Development Officer, you will be responsible for client engagement, portfolio strategies, sales and revenue growth, project performance and profit and loss management of Abt’s US government-funded global development portfolios. You will partner and collaborate with technical service delivery lines and business development to position, sell and oversee delivery of client centered innovative solutions within the USGI business.

To be successful, you will focus on creating and executing the USGI strategy that will lead to retaining and expanding current client relationships, driving increased revenue and sales, earning sustainable contract margins, and informing and influencing our technical capability services and offerings roadmap. Through their external engagement, they will translate client priorities into the portfolio strategy and execution plans as well as leverage Abt’s core capabilities in Research Monitoring & Evaluation, Technical Assistance and Implementation, Digital and Data Services and Equity to meet client needs.

You will be a thought leader and contributor to the global development program landscape, driving excellence in technical quality throughout the USGI-CEG portfolios. As a key member of the GDG leadership team, you will lead a diverse portfolio of research, evaluation, technical assistance, digital and equity programs in support of various US government international development programs (including USAID and MCC). You will be responsible for providing visionary and visible leadership that will promote equity, diversity, and inclusion at Abt and energize, motivate and inspire the organization’s talent.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of Portfolio Leaders and portfolio-aligned experts, provides direction and support in the development of annual portfolio plans and inform solution roadmaps geared towards achieving and exceeding financial and mission objectives centered around client priorities.

  • Drives growth in the USAID Portfolio by collaborating with the Delivery Practice, Solutions Organization and Growth Office teams to build, maintain, and grow a healthy pipeline of opportunities within the portfolio delivering a strong book-to-bill ratio, strong re-compete and new business win percentages, and YoY new business growth.

  • Advance Abt’s reputational capital by actively engaging in thought leadership through industry associations, and client events.

  • Conducts business and technical briefings for executive leadership and for external representatives.

  • Leverages matrixed capabilities to maximize client satisfaction, quality of delivery and business growth.

  • Performs financial management with profit and loss responsibility for the portfolio, with the responsibility to meet or exceed financial targets.

  • Reviews organizational capabilities, and development/execution of strategies, to improve the competitiveness of the portfolio through actions such as professional growth & development, strategic hiring, and strategic partnering.

  • Develops a short- and long-term growth strategy with related tactical execution plans that will drive top line and bottom-line growth for the business line.

  • Builds and manages an effective and efficient team focused on high quality delivery, financial performance, and client relationship development.

  • Increase new business opportunities and appropriately position Abt and the USGI portfolio for future growth and diversification, including integration of digital technologies and tools, and equity methodologies.

  • Models and reinforces throughout the portfolio Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Belonging throughout the employee lifecycle.

  • Models and reinforces throughout the portfolio the Abt Way culture and Abt Citizenship Compact through accountability, learning agility, results, and impact.

  • Is proactive in coaching and developing emerging talent and others, and ensures their team does the same. Ensures the right people are in the right positions in every level of the USGI business with appropriate development and succession plans.

What We Value:

  • Bachelor’s Degree + 15 years of relevant experience, or master's degree + 12 years of relevant experience, or PhD + 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Successful track-record of developing client-relationships.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience managing P&L (including at least $200 million), managing portfolios of programs.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and successfully implementing a business development strategy.

  • Successful track record leading winning proposals, particularly with USAID funded bi-lateral and multi-country programs.

  • Demonstrated technical and program management leadership leading large government contracts.

  • Proven experience building and maintaining strong client relationships, including problem-solving complex project issues with client relationship in mind.

  • Experience leading financial management activities, including target-setting, forecasting, and managing project revenue budgets and operating budgets in line with strategic objectives.

  • In-depth understanding and experience working for a professional services government contractor in the international development field.

  • Specific experience in leading transformational teams focused on long term growth across global portfolios.

  • Demonstrated track record of being an effective change leader, modeling adaptation and adoption to change in your personal communications and actions and applying stakeholder management methods to change initiatives.

  • Lived experience and/or long-term overseas work experience on a donor-funded program preferred.

  • US work authorization required (Abt will not sponsor work authorization for this position).

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $245,000 to $330,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
